<DIV class=3Dstorycontent><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>Which leads me to =
believe if=20
life here gets tougher for the illegals, they'll pack up and go home or =

hate that it's come to trying to close off our borders but how much =

the tube and how many terrorist bombs is it really going to take for =
that to=20
sink in?</FONT></DIV>
<DIV class=3Dstorycontent><FONT face=3DArial =
size=3D2></FONT>&nbsp;</DIV>
<DIV class=3Dstorycontent><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>Will there be a =
gaping hole in=20
the low end jobs? I'd expect it. Will it blow apart our economy. I think =
we'll=20
certainly feel it in goods/services but the big question lies in will =
the=20
spending in the medical expenses and free rides in the country outweigh =
it, andd=20
how does our legal low end applicants play into that? How many of our =
legal=20
jobless will suddenly find they CAN get a job to help feed themselves =

family, and better their circumstances? This isn't about Arabs, Mexicans =

other cultures. It's about responsibility to our house and ourselves and =

<P class=3Dstorycontent><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>Now the crux of this =

lies here. Do you think we should all pony up for free health care or =

rest is semantics, numbers playing&nbsp;and guess work and I say this to =
anyone=20
that wants to mandate more of my paycheck out of me and my family's =

you want to pay for it, go right ahead. Vote yourself into a nice =
expensive=20
money pit&nbsp;volunteer 'program'. &nbsp;Just don't get the idea that I =
want to=20
pay for it too, or that I won't fight it the whole way. Don't mistake =
that I am=20
not a compassionate man, or have heart or ability to help my =
dudes/dudettes. I=20
think years of taking&nbsp;a hand&nbsp;here really ought to say plenty =
about=20
that spirit, and things not generally public knowledge about me. I don't =

giving. But I want to give smart. </FONT></P>
<P class=3Dstorycontent><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>What I won't do is =

that=20

to those=20
who think like you <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; is:<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; "Then, what is =
the=20
cure"??<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt; I did read you last post, which =
prompted mine.=20
Let me elaborate since you <BR>&gt;&gt; don't see what I =
meant.<BR>&gt;&gt;=20
<BR>&gt;&gt; the 'govt' way is to beat down the vendor to the lowest=20
denominator, then <BR>&gt;&gt; hold the<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; payment as long =
as you=20
possibly can. Let's not even get into the<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; 'entitlement' =
problems=20
or running away any decent health care worker <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt;=20
because<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; of govt mandates.<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; Does the =
current=20
health system need work? Absolutely. Do we need the fed<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; =
gov't=20
doing it? NO.<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt; The cure. That's not =
easy,=20
nor is it going to be fast or smooth. I'd <BR>&gt;&gt; approach it as a =
layered=20
answer, like almost all problems in life, and see <BR>&gt;&gt; what =
works. What=20
works will depend on so many variables, like region, <BR>&gt;&gt; =
patient,=20
nature of illness, how the illness was obtained, cure/easing of =
<BR>&gt;&gt;=20
symptoms, procedures involved, doctors, insurance, hospital, etc....=20
<BR>&gt;&gt; Calculating for those variables will be a mountain, however =
I think=20
the very <BR>&gt;&gt; first thing we have to do is stop the leeching and =
free=20
riders. Illegals? <BR>&gt;&gt; Sorry, you will not be admitted to the =
hospital=20
because we're tired of you <BR>&gt;&gt; sucking the life out of our =
economy.=20
Welfare? You're likely to be in line <BR>&gt;&gt; behind the guys that =
have=20
prepaid through insurance or other programs. Don't <BR>&gt;&gt; like it? =
Get=20
legal, get registered, get a job, start paying taxes and <BR>&gt;&gt; =
insurance=20
like the legal working population. Harsh? Yeah. Necessary? At this =
<BR>&gt;&gt;=20
point, yeah - think it is because where we're headed is a train wreck =
for=20
<BR>&gt;&gt; everyone and I can see the wheels coming off as we speak. =
At this=20
point <BR>&gt;&gt; there is no gentle answer, there has been too much =
ripping=20
off going too <BR>&gt;&gt; many ways to fix it nicely. I pay taxes, I =
pay=20
insurance and I take the best <BR>&gt;&gt; care of my self as I possibly =
can.=20
So, explain to me why should I have to <BR>&gt;&gt; buy healthcare for =
someone=20
who doesn't?<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt; And that is 'exactly' the problem =
with=20
entitlement. Too many people feel <BR>&gt;&gt; entitled to sit on their =
asses=20
and collect welfare and debt free health care <BR>&gt;&gt; as it is on =
the backs=20
of those that work for a living. Gov't has got a real <BR>&gt;&gt; =
historical=20
problem with handling that particular because entitlement becomes =
<BR>&gt;&gt;=20
dependant voters for party lines, particularly Democrats but not =
necessarily=20
<BR>&gt;&gt; always. Corruption is corruption. I have a huge problem =
with=20
bribery like <BR>&gt;&gt; that. I've seen it in business practices and =
I've seen=20
it in gov't and I'm <BR>&gt;&gt; sick of it. *Here, let me help you* =
becomes=20
*now you need me to survive so <BR>&gt;&gt; you better do what I say or =
I'll cut=20
you off*. You can't seriously not see <BR>&gt;&gt; that. Jesus saw it. =
Teach a=20
man to fish.. ringing any bells?<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; If we are =
waiting=20
on big business to continue to foot the bill for <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt;=20
employer<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; pid medical insurance, well, thoes days are =
coming to=20
and drastic end. <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; Even<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; with the =
employers like=20
GM are not going to continue to give their <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt;=20
employee<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; top notch medical care.<BR>&gt;&gt; =
<BR>&gt;&gt; Nope,=20
they're not going to continue it. Everyone is tired of being bilked =
<BR>&gt;&gt;=20
for being responsible by those that aren't. The $100 aspirin? That is =
very=20
<BR>&gt;&gt; very likely to have come from greasy suit happy =
lawyers/clients and=20
free <BR>&gt;&gt; loaders.<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; This is a =
cultural=20
issure. Tehre are those in this country who belive that<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; =
great=20
health care is not for all , but only to those who can afford =
it..<BR>&gt;&gt;=20
<BR>&gt;&gt; There are those that believe it should be given scot free =
to them=20
from my <BR>&gt;&gt; hard work. Your point? This isn't cultural unless =
you count=20
illegal entry <BR>&gt;&gt; into the country and laziness as a culture. =
Add=20
welfare state to that, <BR>&gt;&gt; though it's not a 100% as are not =
the other=20
catagories. Unfortunately we <BR>&gt;&gt; don't have the resources to=20
successfully divide these groups into the <BR>&gt;&gt; trying/not trying =
sub=20
groups with exception to the laziness group.<BR>&gt;&gt; =
<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; Now:=20
other than the top 3 percent earners in this country, who can pay=20
for<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; a decent medical insurance plan (not top notched) =
today???=20
Not many <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; families<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; can afford on average =

$600-1000 per month for health care..With rising <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt;=20
fuel<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; cost, food, utilities...it's just not in the budget =
for=20
mant these days..<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt; Where did those figures arive =
from?=20
I'm not saying health care 'is' <BR>&gt;&gt; affordable, but I would =
like to get=20
some idea of how you came to those <BR>&gt;&gt; numbers as an=20
average.<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; And, if you are one of fortunate=20
millionairs, well, you are only one <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; =
catstrophic<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt;=20
illness away from seeing all of your fortune sucked away...That's=20
<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; horrible!!<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; to work hard to acheive =
financial=20
freedom, only to have it sucked from you<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; because you =
"aford=20
it"... What happens when another loved one has some <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt;=20
debilitating<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; disorder ????<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt; =
Millionaire=20
or not, we all face this divide. Being super rich or super broke =
<BR>&gt;&gt;=20
makes no difference here. At current system/rates, they'll get your =
money=20
<BR>&gt;&gt; for any serious long term illness either way. And old age =
is=20
considered a <BR>&gt;&gt; long term illness these days, curable only by =
death.=20
That sucks, but it's a <BR>&gt;&gt; reality we all better prepare for in =
the=20
event we live into retirement or <BR>&gt;&gt; beyond.<BR>&gt;&gt;=20
<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; The goverment system won't be great, but if packaged as =
a 60-70=20
percent <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; "supplement"<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; to your employer =
or self=20
paid medical plan, then all can have dignified <BR>&gt;&gt;&gt;=20
health<BR>&gt;&gt;&gt; coverage.<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt; And who pays =
the other=20
30-40 percent on those that are here illegal (how <BR>&gt;&gt; would you =
collect=20
on an illegal _anyway_ with the feds?), live on welfare or <BR>&gt;&gt; =
don't=20
have insurance/money?<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt; Our employers, reflected =
back to=20
the cost of their goods and what they can <BR>&gt;&gt; pay us for =
producing=20
them. That's right.. right back where we are now. Those <BR>&gt;&gt; =
that have=20
will not have for long because those that don't will take it away =
<BR>&gt;&gt;=20
through gov't mandate and the law of economics. The average Joe gets =
screwed=20
<BR>&gt;&gt; again. We'll pay for the poor through taxes, then again =
through the=20
health <BR>&gt;&gt; care overages we'll have to provide post gov't =
supplement.=20
Any fool can look <BR>&gt;&gt; at social security (hah, what a misnomer) =
and see=20
what will happen. I've <BR>&gt;&gt; been paying my life on a fund that =
I'm=20
likely to never collect upon. I'm not <BR>&gt;&gt; willing to add =
another to=20
that list. Entitlement is crap and it doesn't work <BR>&gt;&gt; for any =
length=20
of time before becoming corruption.<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt; Sorry man, =
I don't=20
see this working. But it's a nice thought. We've got to <BR>&gt;&gt; =
start=20
dealing with our border and overpopulation problems because so many =
<BR>&gt;&gt;=20
things are a result of this root issue.<BR>&gt;&gt; <BR>&gt;&gt; =

------=_NextPart_000_0018_01C7B200.30434E90--I think it's mostly the same problem whatever we're buying that is made in
China in these days.
We allready know many great American and Europeen firms that's stopped
producing in their home countries, just to get their "great" productlines
from China and other countries where people are just a working machine, with
no human rights at all. It's not only Behringer that's doing these things.
Nearly all things we're buying now a days, as clothes, shoes, el articles,
music things like Mackie products and Studio Projects microphones etc. etc.,
you can see with small writings a place: "Made in China". Most of these
workers that's making products for our western countries, are working under
conditions as Dubuya is saying here.
So I must say we're all living very well in our great western world, with
all our China and Eastern products and our great double moral;-)

No, but seriously, I love stars and planets and stuff, so I'll take a look
out there. I have many megabytes of pics of planets, galaxies, novas, etc.

Thanks for the tip. :)

it just so happens that the moon is currently passing Saturn, (although they
are not visible in the US right now) but tomorrow the moon will be another
fist-at-arm's-length to the east of where it was today -- still close enough
to Venus to help locate it. Not as easy as it was today... but give it a
try.

A great site to see the relative positions of things astronomical from where
you live is this:

www.fourmilab.ch/yoursky

just type in your lattitude and longitude...

-stevecorrected:
How low of a latency can it operate reliably? In the past 10ms was
pretty the lowest. Which is unusable for VSTi IMHO.

------=_NextPart_000_01BD_01C7B268.DA6B8190--Yo mac users, I'm asking on behalf of a buddy of mine that's getting some
latency problems with this rig.

It's a Powerbook (whatever the biggest/newest/fastest one is), using Digital
Performer with an Apogee Ensemble interface.

He is getting latency problems when playing back/overdubbing a project with
16 to 20 tracks. I think they've played around with a buffer and it has
helped, but I thought I'd ask the group and see if anyone knows some things
that could be checked and/or if this rig should run smoother than this. I
would think so, but then again, I am pretty spoiled with Paris.

thanks!,
-CarlSorry your having so many problems. I've got 2 mecs and a 442 working here.
Mecs on card A and F (6 card system) 442 on card B.
It just worked right out of the shoot. I'm using a GenX6 word clock. All
short Zaolla cables. All cards in a Magma chassis.

I could use an outbaord delay and flip them in a pre.

I have noticed when using my 201 space echo that depending which input you
use on it, fliping the return gets better results.

Rod,
Sounds exactly like my setup with only 5 cards.
I'll try one more time before going back to two
Mecs before DJs shows up for another round.

In the paris.cfg I am using:
(Space)
UseHouseSync=3D1

Is this what everyone else is using? Should it be
at the top, bottom or somewhere in the middle?
I'm thinking at the top all of the sudden since timing=20
is so critical. Up until now it's been on the bottom of=20
the list for me. Let's see . . .=20

is what will happen with logic...i have dp but don't use it much

another Q. how many tracks are the templates set for as dp sees them
as active even if they're not.

Does anyone still authenticate the Paris 3 Pace information - what address
to send to and do they respond?

www.parisfaqs.com

THe xp setup info links are right above the Mac OS section

yes From the intelligentdevices.com web site:

We are still providing challenge/response codes for PARIS owners. Send
your challenge code, your license/key number, and reason for
reauthorization to support@intdevices.com. Please allow 7 days for a
response e-mail

Every now and then I look up. Counted five planets along the ecliptic at
dusk the other day. It's always amazing to me to see other parts of the
solar system and picture the whole collection in motion.

Instead of rebuilding that box, pardon my ignorance, are there external
drive trays available so I can pop in my old drives vai a USB port?

Also, as an additional storage solution, do the huge 500 GB external drives
via USB work just as fast or efficiently?

Thanks!I would not advise using USB for multi-track audio... far too slow and
flaky.

David.

Okay problem solved. All this time I was thinking that I moved=20
Paris from the Program Files folder to C:Paris Pro . Turns out
it was still accessing the paris.cfg file from the Program Files folder.
I've fixed that and all ins/outs are working! Simple once you know
the answer huh ? .

I will still need your Mec DJ so I'll send you a check once you give me
the shipping to add to it. Thanks for all the help you guys.

Rod,
Sounds exactly like my setup with only 5 cards.
I'll try one more time before going back to two
Mecs before DJs shows up for another round.

In the paris.cfg I am using:
(Space)
UseHouseSync=3D1

Is this what everyone else is using? Should it be
at the top, bottom or somewhere in the middle?
I'm thinking at the top all of the sudden since timing=20
is so critical. Up until now it's been on the bottom of=20
the list for me. Let's see . . .=20

I saw this by just reading the spec - obviously I haven't heard it, but nothing
really struck me as revolutionary.

On the same side of a different coin, exactly how is this 'new' mixer supposed
to replace a DM2K or 02R96? They don't even appear to share anything except
all are Yamaha and all are mixers...

I have some pro features like talk-back, but is a little lite onthe channel
side. I think a 24-32 channel is what's needed.

>I agree, the days of the console are very numbered...To the best of my knowledge,
exactly 100% of the audio world has seen the proverbial writing on the wall...and
with technology doublilng every 3-5 years, digital consoles are obsolete
the moment they are released...sure, there are still a few big board users,
but each year those numbers drop significantly, and the boards are either
stripped for parts or decommissioned and stored...

I can't say the Yamaha/Steinberg cooperative is gonna do anyone any good
in the long run...its as if the two have throw their hands up in tandem and
surrendered to PTHD...I haven't heard ANYTHING regarding Nuendo in literally
months...all the while SSL and Soundscape seem poised to give Digi a run
for the money, but with ProTools sessions being the ennumerated standard
for AES protocols now, it almost seems hopeless for any other format or company...

But there again, when 99% of any audio app's user base is more concerned
with fake drums, putting everything on the grid, and having mp3 as the final
delivery format, we all get what we derserve...

Sorry to vent. (no, I'm not...but apologies are polite :) )

Here's what I use:

>It goes down to 128 samples, but it's a moot point. I don't have a
screaming fast machine, but from my experience unless you have an empty
project you can't get any interface fast enough for professional
recording (I mean really playing something, not just a pad or a string
line).

For recording VSTis I use 2 computers. I have the main one with the
whole song on it, set at a high latency, and a I set up a second one
with just the individual VSTi active, set at low latency, and while I
record the midi data on the main one, I monitor the output from the
second one. For playback the main one takes over. I use a mixer of course.

This system works brilliantly and I never have to stress over latencies.
I hate doing things that in any way make a client or visiting musician
uncomfortable or inconvenienced. This is probably a hold over from
running for-hire studios. I don't like anything that unnecessarily draws
the artists attention onto the recording process, and any noticeable
latency certainly does that.

So, the latency of MLan is not an issue to me.

Yeah, and the first thing every keyboard player wanted to know was how
good was the organ patch.

I had a midied Prophet for a while and I loved it.

Wow! And for only $6000! Then Yamaha came along and made it

I actually had a DM1K at my studio for a while but I was so busy at the
time I only took it out of the flight case. I wish I had spent a little
time listening to it.

I wasn't expecting these little mixers to replace the DM series, but
I've been hoping we would see some synergistic products resulting from
the union of the 2 companies. Both have been revolutionary leaders in
the past, so there is hope of some interesting shit happening.

Hate to say it, but it looks to me like it's a reworking of
their MG-series, but in black, and with convertors attached.

Jamie-

you're welcome!

5 Planets?... either you're counting the moon as a planet, or you have really
really good eyes (and a big telescope) and saw Pluto... I could only see
3 planets....but I know Mercury would have been visible had I gone out earlier.

-steveJust to be clear Erling, without much noise going about doing it, I boycott
as much as I can when and where appropriate. I own a couple of Guang Phan
products. Didn't know their origins until after I bought. No more. I
don't shop Walmart or Target (2 biggest purveyors of chinese made products
in the US) unless I absolutely have to because they bring in so many totally
Chinese products. And when I do shop there, I don't walk out with anything
that says Made in China. I don't buy anything AT&T because they took
thousands and thousands of jobs to MeHico 6 years ago. 20 something years
ago I stopped shopping K-Mart. They then owned Waldenbooks and together
with their K-mart stores placed porn mags right out where kids could see
them and refused public pressure to remove them from K-mart stores
altogether. Their CEO at the time pretty much called his vocalizing
customer base bible-thumping puritans, laughed and went his merry way only
to lose his gig a few years later. I didn't celebrate when Big K almost
went TU here a couple of years ago but I'm pretty sure my 18 year boycott
was felt with the exception that I purchased a one-gallon plastic gas can
there one time ater running out of gas.

I did the same with Iomega when I found out that 13 year-old rain forest
babies were putting together zip drives. Don't get me wrong; I am not
activist although I am certainly a strong bearer of political opinion. But
where I'm quick to call BS here (like the time I called it on someone here
who said Saddam Hussein was a genius) I'm quicker to quietly do something to
shape my world.

Double morals (or what we call "double standards" here in the US) will
always reside with all of us to some extent. I've got a few and probably
more that haven't been pointed out to me or that I refuse to really look at.

This'll get you started. And they're old numbers for the most part, =
could be an improvement in the situation but I seriously doubt it. I've =
seen growth in my area for sure and I'd expect the same for this region =
of states all the way to Cali.

This study is one of the first to estimate the total impact of illegal =
immigration on the federal budget. Most previous studies have focused on =
the state and local level and have examined only costs or tax payments, =
but not both. Based on Census Bureau data, this study finds that, when =
all taxes paid (direct and indirect) and all costs are considered, =
illegal households created a net fiscal deficit at the federal level of =
more than $10 billion in 2002. We also estimate that, if there was an =
amnesty for illegal aliens, the net fiscal deficit would grow to nearly =
$29 billion.
http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexec.html

Washington Post found about the same thing
"Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion =
in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in =
taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per =
illegal household," said Steven A. Camarota, author of the study.

Deportation doesn't seem such a great idea

New Study: Deporting Illegal Aliens Will Cost $41 Billion A Year.Do =
They Take American Express??
[Bryanna Bevens] @ 11:24 am [Email author] [Email This Article] =
[Print This Article]=20
Recently, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich suggested that we =
round up and deport the millions of illegal aliens who currently reside =
in the U.S.=20

Silly mortal.what on earth was he thinking? Simple solutions to =
complicated problems just confuse the powers that be-he should have used =
graphs and flow charts.you know, visual aids that provide an opportunity =
for interpretation.=20

To discourage the idea, the Center for American Progress (CAP-whatever =
that's supposed to be) prepared a sort of makeshift cost/benefit =
analysis for deporting millions of illegal aliens.=20

Hmm.I wonder what they determined?? Surprise, surprise, surprise.the =
cost is astronomical. In fact, according to CAP, the solution is cost =
prohibitive.

[extracted from the report linked below]

"Using publicly available data, we estimate the costs of a mass =
deportation effort to be at least $206 billion over five years ($41.2 =
billion annually), and could be as high as $230 billion or more. =
Spending $41.2 billion annually would exceed the entire budget of the =
Department of Homeland Security for FY 2006 ($34.2 billion) and more =
than double the annual cost of military operations in Afghanistan ($16.8 =
billion)."
