(859) 635-5762Not quite. Most buss compressors are emulations of either the SSL (Quad Compressor-Buss
compressor)or the Fairchild 670. These compressors do one thing and one thing
well and that is glue together a mix..Some may even descibe it as, they narrow
the stereo feild at bit and holds a tight grip on a mix. Where as a maximizer
does not "glue " a mix, but let's you get loud. The Multiband, is really
more an clever eq ,but lets you compressor different bands..

The term precision limiter is a new term for me. I think this kind of Compressor
combines the Maximixer capabilities along with Intelligent Limiter (alas
Paris). To alow some harmonic distortion in a smooth way, but not overs..

Hows the whole systemlink deal working out for you? (or is it?)
I'm considering a stab at it here.

JonHI Don,
Do you mean the Digidesign oo2 rack or the Yamaha 02r mixer?
Is he dumping Pro Tools? If he wants to transfer audio to another
program and start using a different sound card all he needs to do is
export the project as OMF or as broad cast wave file.
He will be able to open them in any current program at that point.

If he is looking to get out from under the thumb of Digi then it will
matter which OS he has for the sound card choice.
Is he needing to replicate the Digi's I/O as in Mic-Pre amps etc? If so
then there is nothing Lynx Makes that will work also there are no
options for the Mac side.
The closest thing that will be higher sound quality but similar I/O
configuration would be the RME Fireface 800.
If he doesn't need the pres and just wants line level and digital then
there are more options available.

Assuming he wants a stereo analog I/O and 16 channels of ADAT.
PC-
Lynx L22 PCI card with the LS-ADAT expansion card
RME HDSP 9652 PCI card and RME HDSP 9632 PCI card (more digital than he
wanted but a powerful combo)

MAC-
RME PCI-e versions of the above cards

Other than that the RME fireface 800 is the only device that will be the
closest I/O to the digi 002r that will be of a higher sound quality.

It works well, but................not always. DO NOT trust it for tracking
live sessions simultaneously to two computers. I had some wserious glitches
while doing this. For VSTi's is reliable enough to reccommend.

DeejCool. I wasn't really looking at it for tracking.. more for the VST farm kind
of thing (plugs and VSTi's). So you're finding the latency acceptable? Isn't
it exponential (or something) as you add more machines?

As always - thanks for the info!

Cheers,
Jon

and then the advanced tactics of insurgency, secure communication, and so
on. This was to give Russia 'it's Vietnam.'

Relying on any other country for anything important is, to some extent, a
danger. The US is blessed with staggering resources of our own that we use
a good deal of. Some of the stuff is cheaper to get from somewhere else.
However, as dangerous as relying on Saudi Arabia to keep gas in the tank
might be, relying on Japan and China to keep our credit markets liquid is
probably just as bad an idea. But it's pretty hard to demonize the people
who build most of the stuff we buy so they're getting a free pass in the
gloom and doom department.

We'll see. I always think about things like that (what to do if it dries
up).
I've been lucky in that I have several corperate clients that I do engineering,
drumming, and producing for. I use to do a lot of jingle work (drumming)
but that's kind of dried up in the last couple of years. I'm almost 48, so
I hope it continues for a while, or I can figure out something else if I
have to.
