>Hi Kerry,
I checked out the severth circle stuff, and I would feel comfortable building
it. I think that may be the next place I will go after the grace. I've
never owned a really, really nice mic pre, and I feel I need something to
use as a benchmark to develop my listening skills.
I look forward to hearing your report on the seventh circle modlues. I could
see them being on the list for next year sometime.
All the best,
MikeIt will work on the hyperthreading exactly the same way as a multi core.
The only issue I had last night was I got 2 blue screens (out of many, many
quits) when quitting the PARIS app. While running, I had no troubles at
all. I'm almost positive that the driver tried to signal the app after it
had closed. I started working on a lock to ensure that can't happen. There
may be other issues that come up, but I think we're in the home stretch.
Cheers!
Mike

em yet, I'm just going on word of mouth -
albeit some from folks whose ears I trust. The user buzz is incredible,
and I literally have not found a single word of negativity - or even
"damned with faint praise" -- amongst the pros. The rumour is that
they've got the Neve implementation really right.
The driving factor for me is the bang-for-the-buck. Back in the day
when I was running a little studio we used to use Shawn Pierce's modded
Neve broadcast "bassinet" to front end PARIS recordings and i got used
to that Neve magic, and miss it (although I'll be trying some of the
other SCA offerings like the C84 "Millennia" clone).
The bassinet came with a lot of problems (there were always one or two
flaky channels that needed lovin' up). I probably could have bought it
for a few grand and refurbed it, but for a small project facility it's
a real challenge to make a purchase like that cost-effective. So I'm
really looking forward to having similar sonics but with far greater
reliability at a price point I can justify, in a day of scaled-back
productions and a producer's facility I have no intention of letting
mushroom into A) a full studio with attendant overhead and B) a busy
facility that has large amounts of folks tramping in and out of our
family bathroom :D

You got it; I'll let you know how it goes on those. I might make the
jump sooner rather than later too. Good luck with the Grace, from what
I'm hearing it'll make you happy.
- KGreat info, John, thanks! I'll be digging through the weighty cable bin
and seeing what I have in there (I'm almost sure I have some Mogami and
Canare instrument cable in there). I've already got a bunch of Neutrik
ends I can use.

Mike, lordamercy, is this sort of thing hard to do? Are you taking donations?
How many folks need this? I'm making multiple backup copies of your software
tweaks if this keeps working, and buying myself another motherboard just
like the one I have now just for future-proofing. Now if I can just afford
that Magma chassis...

But it does feel different, the GUI responds like it did on my old PIII motherboard
again.
I'll report back tomorrow. If all goes well, I'm buying some of Mike's plugins.
; ) I always thought about bidding on an old DP4 on eBay, but now I don't
have to.

I don't have two ADAT cards to try using two in two MECs at once. But, I
worked really hard at getting the ADAT card to work reliably under XP. It
works fine with one card in one MEC. I'm sure of that. I also made a lot
of changes to the way the PSCL enumerates cards to make sure that it didn't
miss anything. My 8 out card would be missed by the PSCL because it took
too long to respond, and then the app would innitialize it (because it does
everything again - probably because the PSCL wasn't working right and they
just worked around it.)
Anyway, donations are certainly welcome. :) It's taken about 6 months to
get the PSCL and the scherzo to this point.
I think the next step might be allocating ram at system startup to help those
who get the "could not allocate common buffer error." I'm also trying to
add some code that will reduce the driver latency, but it won't compile with
that in for some reason. I sent an email to Chris to see if he has any ideas
as to why.
Next stop is the ASIO driver.
All the best!
MikeI can test that next week, with adat cards across 3 mecs, or hell, why
not 4 mecs? I'll test that.
I don't think I have adat sync cables anymore.. I'll have to check.
Things are a bit chaotic for the next few days here but things should
return to normal after the weekend and I'll be back in Parisland..
Cheers,
TC

isForums/ - all posts on the "theproject"
group (including attachments) are already automatically mirrored to the
web forums and vice versa (we hope to be tackling the technical issues
blocking the syncing of "Main" and "Forsale" soon and opening them up
officially).
3) posts that wind up on the web forum allow you the use of extra
notification features - like RSS to keep track of updates or - even
more directly - emails sent to you every time an update hits.
4) the upload/download functionality of the Web forum works better than
my feculently annoying USENET browser's (Unison for Mac OSX) does :D

Mike, thanks from the very bottom of my heart. This is a very big life-changer
for me right now. I was working on such a stable rig for so long, but then
for a while now things have just been so sketchy, and I didn't know why.
Those damn dual processors....I had no idea....
I'll be buying Mike-ish plug-ins first of the week. BTW, that DP/Pro Hall
reverb sounds amazing! That's far better than anything I have on my Kurzweil
Rumour. I'm very excited to be supporting such a kick-ass dude by purchasing
software that makes my life easier anyway!
Did the Ensoniq DP boxes really sound that good? Good lord, where are those
guys today?

Same algorithms, but PARIS has even better converters :)
Here's one of them - John Dattoro -

My bad; that's Jon Dattoro, not John, and here's some more DP4 info:
general:
http://www.stanford.edu/~dattorro/DP4.htm
manual (pdf):
http://www.stanford.edu/~dattorro/DP4_manual.pdfThanks so much for the kind words, Jimmy!
Thanks also for beta testing. I'm glad its made the difference. I haven't
had any problems with it either. I think we're in good shape. :)
I've compared the dp/pro hall to my MPX1, and the DP/Pro hall is smoother
and bigger sounding. Those guys were incredible.
Cheers!
