johnJohn,
I'm sure the 212 has a huge sound. Although the 112 is rated at 200w it may
be the speaker that breaks up a bit with the low strings at stage volume.
After all it is a single 12" doing the job.

I've been in band mode for a while so I haven't been around much lately.

I just wanted to drop in and let you know if you are thinking of any new
gear purchases check out my man Drew Townson's new set up:

http://www.analogplanet.com/

I've known Drew for many years and he's always done me right. He used to
work for Merc and PAD. Now he's gone out on his own. He's got A designs,
Wunder, Coles
stuff like that, not everything yet, but more seems to be coming in.

Tell him I sent you!

I'll see you all when I get back to recording.Hi all,

Been out humping a couple of new systems into place, so I
haven't been around much.

Got a new 8-core Mac Pro shipping. The pore ole Mini here
has had about enough of me and how hard I work it...

Anyway, I have discovered that the way to buy Apple
computers is to get your own RAM. (I use Crucial)
and your own monitor. (not the terrific but silly-expensive
Apple ones). I got 6G of RAM for half the price of 4G from
Apple. Crazy... and a 24" Sceptre DVI monitor for 299.

Macs are almost affordable if you pay attention to the
details...

The 8-core with all that RAM and a couple of good drives
will serve me well if I have to leave PARIS, but I will resist
as long as I can.

HEY! Where's our update!

I know... coming soon...

Also, for buying the Mac I got a free iPod Touch for my
wife. Pretty impressive I must say with built in WiFi.

Kind of an iPhone w/o the phone. It also plays my full
uncompressed wav files just like my Classic and sounds
fab. Very cool little box.

Hope everything is well with you all.

DCGot the edu deal, eh? You still teaching or did you just enroll in
college finally. ;^)

The 8 core is a monster. You'll like it.

I have had good luck with Crucial also for the last few years. Dell has
been OK for monitors.

Still holding out for the next multi-core release before I replace the
G5. But the new 17" MacBook Pro has been pretty sweet. BTW, I recommend
Chris from this group over at ADK, they are Apple dealers.

Cheers,
-Jamie

To get the best memory speed when you have more than 2 sticks of ram you need to even sized and even numbered sticks in both bank A and bank B.

Probably won't notice the difference with most applications. Just heavy video and audio stuff will see a benefit.

This holds true for current PC Xeon boards also. Not like they are any different now anyways.

Also make sure you Crucial ram has the large heat spreaders like on the Apple ram. If not you may start to have overheating issues.

I just setup a system for a video guy and he is using that new Samsung Syncmaster 305T 30 LCD.
The quality jump over the 30" Apple display was drastic and its like $500 less. ha

Yes. I heard about that. I have 2 matched sticks, 2G each.
Crucial has a box talking about these issues.

Does it matter where they are? It comes with 2G from apple
and they are in the first 2 slots. Is it OK to put the new
ones in 3&4 or should they be in 1 and 2 and the oem
in 3 and 4?

They do indeed.

Now, I am getting ticked off about the monitor situation...

The Sceptre I bought does not work with the Mini.

Using DVI, it will not maintain the image. It just blinks on and
off and never stabilizes. So, I go to VGA and set the rez
to native 1920x1200 and 60hz and it works fine but looks
lousy. I go back to the DVI input (disconnected the VGA)
and no dice.

Sooo I call up Sceptre and they dunno why it does that, and
don't care. "Mac's are not supported"

So back to Costco it goes... and I am almost ready to buy
an Apple monitor... grrrrrrrr

I liked what you said about the Samsung and I like their
stuff so I got them on the phone.

"Should work, no promises, Macs are not supported"

Well, we know the one you installed worked, but they will not
tell me that any others will...

So, I found one at Newegg by Planar.

http://www.planar.com/products/flatpanel_monitors/px_flatpan el/px2411w.cfm

It's 499.00 at Newegg.

I got Planar on the horn and yes, Macs are supported and the
guy was super helpful. He says it looks better than the
Apple monitor.

Seen them?

thanks for all the help.

>chrisl@adkproaudio.comHi all,

I bought a Paris system (Mac) when they first came out and used it quite
a bit. But it's been a few years now since I've used it and I recently dusted
it off and hooked it up again for small projects for myself.

I'm remembering or re-reading about most of the functions except I'm having
trouble with the mix down procedures.

So, when I mix down a few tracks to stereo I hit that "D" button on the main
mixer right? Then I have those two tracks I can drag around. There's something
about the Global or Submix here that I don't quite remember.

I have some old Waves processing I used to use. I used to then take that
mix and run Waves processing on it. I think I used to drag it back into the
Editor and use two tracks on the main mixer and do a stereo process. I believe
I had to click the stereo button on the Waves and the two tracks, side by
side, would then be processed in stereo (for maximizing or eq or etc.) It
didn't seem to work the other night though so I'm not sure.

I used Sonicworx to then import the files to then burn a CD. There were some
particular settings to be used (aiff, wav or ?) and the bit rate I believe
(44100, etc.).

Sorry about the length of this post. I would appreciate any assistance from
anybody who can tell me what the hell I used to do!!!

I always liked Paris and I'm amazed at how cheap the stuff is selling for
now.

Thanks a bunch,
MikeI wondered where Drew went. Tell him Aaron from the previous AIB camp said
hey.
