If I remember correct, Athlon 64 3000+ is working at 2.1 GHZ. 3000+ is just
a way to show it have the same speed or better, as an Intel 3.0 GHZ.

project was Absynth, Hypersonic - 10 tracks and when I added Battery 2 and
went to play along (trying out ideas) all hell broke loose re: digital
distortion.
For the record this machine wasn't supposed to house all these VST synths
but the synth fairy dropped by and well, I just couldn't say no so the game
plan is to ramp this cubase rig up to a 3+ gig machine in the very near
future.
Will try upping things to 512 and see what happens fingers X'd

BarryRight, but you should be able to overclock it to get even higher
speed out of it (I've been able to do this with all my other
AMD CPU's), but I can't seem to accomplish that with this one.

and never learn about the 2/5/1 progression that jazz uses. The real fun is
when you play the 2/5/1 inside a 4/5/1 - bebop blues.

What is your Paris hardware compliment?

CLLook if there's bios updates or other updates for the motherboard. Havn't
any experience with Uli chipsets but can overclock my A8V Deluxe/VIA K8T800
Pro with 3.8 Athlon dual Processor up to 4.2. Maybe you can get some more
ideas here to find out more: http://www.sysopt.com/

Good job Chris! Just curious, where are you located?Nice job, DeWd! :) Really great sounds & mixes... is the
rhythm guitar on: "If it Mattered to Me" a modeled tone, or at
least recorded direct? Just wondering - it has that kind of
characteristic.
What was your signal chain for her voice? It's a nice straight-
ahead vocal tone without any over-coloration of any kind.
As other people have mentioned, nice choices on sounds overall
across the board on all the cuts... "It Don't Help" is my
personal fave, I think.

>Hey folks,
This is sample of artist in development over at my place.
We're having a great time working on singing /arranging techniques
and I'd like to share the results.
http://www.qbdigital.com/newpvsample.htm
We've been working on getting the singer controlling the compression
while he sings. There are still problems with some popping and sibilance
and we'll be working on that.
I know there are better ways to do what we are doing, but I'm still a novice
at this.
I'm honored to have good artists to work with and time is always limited.
Thanks for listening.
LanceAgreed, but my harmony knowledge is pretty decent. I'm not great, but I can
hear what, say, Wes Montgomery is doing or what Miles is doing reasonably
well. I can't do it myself but I can say, "Hmmm, that's a Lydian blues lick
of all things."
Personally I think CC is so hard to understand because he was _not_ thinking
about harmony, and especially not about modal harmony as jazz is taught these
days. There's more of that on some of the lo-fi "jam" tapes that exist but
even then he doesn't sound like he's thinking as theoretically as the other
proto-beboppers. But then again, I'm not a jazz player so what do I know.

I finally had a moment to try out an old 442
interface I bought a couple of years ago and
it is not being recognized by Paris. I've tried
several configurations but no love. I tried it as
the only interface (unplugged the MEC) and tried
every single card (3 EDS cards) and still no joy.
When Paris "pings" the 442, all the lights flash
for a moment and then I get the error message
"...no interface detected by...
check cable connection..." the lights go out
and the sync light continues to flash.
Do you think that I have a bad 442 or do I need
to reinstall the Paris software (3.0) in order
to get my system to recognize the 442? What
else can I try before dumping this piece? Repair maybe?
Thanks so much for your time,
ChrisAttention all computer geeks! ;-)
OK, my question is, when using AMD X2 dual core chips do you have to
run XP Pro to take full effect of the dual cores? I know Pro is
required for "Dual CPU's" but is it required for dual core "Single
CPU's"????? Our XP Home X2 machine shows the two cores in the Task
Manager....
Here endeth the question.

try changing your SCSI cable.
Does your 442 show up in the patch bay device window?Be sure to hit all the arrow play keys for the full effect

AAHi David,
NO XP Home works fine. It see it the same way it would see
hypertheading. Xp Home could alway use a 2 cpu machine. The difference
is that it isn't allowed to run on a 2 or more socket motherboard. The
X2 systems are single socket.

I built my AMD X2 4400 system a couple of months ago and have, at least
recently had problems with the desktop theme resetting on restart, randomly
- one day it's normal, the next, it gets reset. Not a big deal in the grand
scheme, but turning system sounds off when this happens is annoying. There
are several threads of users seeing this on the MS forum, but no solutions.
Second problem, and probably the more strange and perhaps foreboding - under
most user configurable settings (visual settings, folder settings, etc), the
tick box/option is missing - each option is there, but no way to
select/deselect. My user account is admin, so it shouldn't (that I can
tell) be a user access issue. I've built several PCs and never seen
anything like this - nothing unusual during install - pretty standard stuff.
Any ideas? I'm trying to avoid rebuilding it as it took a long day to get
it setup with all the apps, VSTi's, licenses, etc, etc, and I don't have
time in the foreseeable furture to do so. So far it isn't a show stopper
but I'm holding my breath wondering if it will become one.

CLThanks, Neil.
Mike Durham played all the electric stuff thru an amp, though I can't
remember what kind of amp, mic'ed with a 57. Jason Roller played a Larivee
acoustic mic'ed with a Studer stereo mic. The vocals they carried over to
Nashville's Quad Studios to record, and I'm not sure of what mic they used,
but I do know they used a Neve pre and an LA2A comp.

Sounds like something messing up your user accts. Have tried creating a
whole new Admin Acct and removing the old one after? This won't effect
any programs other than maybe some preferences.
Could you have possibly have installed some hardware or software with
out selecting it to allow all users? I've things like that cause trouble.

(859) 635-5762Well I don't have a mix to do...
....but I did just log on to the group with the express purpose of starting
a thread in titled "Where can I get a job with no stress?!?".
We've got union negotiations going on here... plus I just pissed off one
of the bosses here by finishing work at 3:30 last Friday. The fact that I
started early, missed my one hour I'm supposed to get for lunch, and worked
basically a 12 hour day for that same job the week before... none of that
stuff was of any interest of course.
There's this stuff we use at work called "Snoopy". It's basically soapy water
in a squeezy bottle. It's for detecting air leeks. You put a little on the
join of the air pipe and if there's a leak it makes bubbles. I saw it and
thought "That sounds like a good business to be in. Mix a little detergent
with some water. Stick it in a bottle and sell it for $5".
Surely there's some job I could be in that doesn't contain any stress...
Maybe I could become one of those dudes who runs the elevator...
Cheers,
Kim.

>Hi Chris,
It does sound like that's the problem. I haven't tried replacing the admin
account but will. I can't think of anything that I installed that would be
user sensitive - Nuendo, Vegas, Flash/Dreamweaver, etc - install is pretty
vanilla unless I fell asleep and hit an "okay" button without realizing it
(quite possible - esp. the falling asleep at the keyboard part).
Thanks,

If anyone knows how to get ahold of Matt Craig, ask him if it's ok if I release
the Beefy Reverb as freeware. This was a two year labor of love on his part
in porting the "pro" reverbs from the DP pro including byte for byte translations
of all the presets. It takes up an entire DSP chip, but it's worth it.
Chuckmmmmmm... beefy..
Thanks for releasing these Chuck. Very nice of you.

The Frontier Designs Dakota, RME HDSP9652 and Digi9652 are the only
cards that have built in ADAT Time sync. But none are cheap and none
have analog I/O only ADAT.
The best cheap sound card from the description of what you need would
seem to be the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI card. It's 99.00 has rca
analog RCA and stereo SPDIF and Midi I/O.
If you are going into Paris's SPDIF connection then it really doesn't
matter how the built analog sound sense you will be listening to Paris's
converters.
You can use the Midi if you need to sync the time code between the 2
machines.
There are tighter time code syncs possible but then you have to spend
allot more money.

I purchased this (knowing there are driver issues) by
someone's suggestion to buy it. I have spent four days
now and have come to find the USB signal gets lost
very easily and the unit is rendered undetected. This means all
hardware synths stop. If I do a sysex dump it loses
connectivity. It also crashes hard and fast to a black screen
if I touch any buttons on the "Mute" screen in Clockworks.
Clockworks is the software that controls programmability.
CW also loses touch with the hardware during these activities.
A quick fix seems to be an Off/On button push. That's a little
extreme 3 or 4 times in a song...
Motu drivers are v2.51 on Win XP Pro with Cubase 2.0?. I am using
an AMD 1700+ with a PCI to USB 2.0 card installed.
I haven't bothered syncing with Paris yet. That's not an
option the way things have been going. =20
I tried to have Cubase filter sysex data but whenever I do a sysex send
to a hardware synth the "Computer" light on the Motu lights up.
I think if I could filter sysex from not only Cubase but the 'Motu
trying to send to Cubase' I'd be better off. As I understand it the=20
Motu is always sending/returning all 8 ports to and from Cubase.

sync for timelines. Have no idea of how "tight" it is or needs to be? I
understand that the 9-pin ADAT sync would be the tightest. A LynxOne card I
just missed went for $157 on Ebay. Something like this I could swing. I
may have uses other than just into PARIS, so I would like to have something
that sounds good as well. It seems a number of folks have had problems with
Dakota and PARIS, so I havent been looking at this one. If I had the $$,
RME Multiface would be it. For cheap, the Audiophile does seem to offer a
lot. Does the EMU 1212 have decent MIDI sync?
thanks,

------=_NextPart_000_0228_01C63343.24A3FC70--Hi Edna,
The Multiface dos not have the ADAT Sync option on it. Neither do any of
the Lynx cards. So in that respect they would be now better than the
audiophile. The midi time code sync on any of the cards are fine. I
didn't see what audio app you will be using to do this along with Paris.
The timing issues will be caused by these apps more than the hardware.
Cubase 3 and Sonar 5 both seem to having pretty tight timing from what
I've experienced. Cubase 1/2 and the earlier Sonar version all have had
their of troubles but could usually be tweaked to work well.
Personally I would see if you can find a used HDSP9652 or
Digiface/HDSPPCI card on ebay. Well worth the money for when you will
eventually shit can Paris for something different. :)

as the best of the group! Thanks for all you've done for Paris users over

t with, but my testing seems to show that
it puts about 10% more load on the highest numbered CPU, which is a small
price to pay if it solves a driver issue, especially in a dual core or cpu
situation.
Just wondering....

>Hi Mike.
I ran into this flag a month ago but haven't had a chance to test it during
a session. I actually ran my last session (recording scratch tracks of my
wife) without the C16 - just forgot to hook it up and never took the time to
shutdown PARIS once we got rolling.
When I found the switch, I also tried another switch (/onecpu). I'm about
80% sure one of these does the trick. That night I tried it and played
through a project, trying fast moves on the C-16 - didn't see the problems I
had before of the transport locking up.
Hopefully someone using the system a bit more fulltime will have a chance to
try it out.

I still have reliability problems. Would you be so kind to paste your
paris.cfg and tell me what cpu/memory type config you use. How reliable
is Paris for you?
In fact, anyone with a reliable system, please paste your paris.cfg and
your system setup. Thanks and great luck on the new CD Jason.

David,
I looked inside and there are no 8 pin chips that say PC or MAC.
I also didn't see any dip switches. =20
I did talk to Eric at Motu. His take is to eliminate the variables. I =
removed
the USB 2 PCI card and am now using it with the onboard USB 1. So far
so good. I also reinitialized it just to start from ground zero again. =
I may try another
USB cable too. The one I'm using came from Motu.
I haven't reinstalled the software or tried the mute switches because I =
have to much
work to catch up on before I can continue to trouble shoot. I suspect =
there may
be an AMD or mobo issue I'm dealing with here that isn't compatible with
this Motu piece. Who knows.
Thanks for the tips and I'll keep you informed as to my progress.

We have that exact unit here and had to swap out the rom chip for it=20
to work with the PC. Pop the top and look for an 8 pin dip that has a =
sticker on the top, it will clearly be labeled MAC or PC. It is=20
possible that they have developed a generic rom negating the need for=20
different chips, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

Is it necessary to have BNC terminator plugs on the unused MEC BNC output
jacks in order to have a stable rig?
I have a 4-card/3 MEC system, with two Kurzweil boxes rigged in and clocked
over SPDIF via a digital patchbay, and while I can always get things running
smoothly after several reboots of Paris, I tend to get long strecthes of
nasty digital hiss or digital clicking or submixes not playing before things
settle in after the 5th or 10th Paris reboot.
Also, would it help to have a physical interface on all cards? I have a 442
laying around somewhere I could hang off the 4th card.....
Thanks!
JimmyThanks LaMont, I'll check it out. . .

with phernegan and codiene tends to make me a bit sluggish and out of
phase....but it's definitely taking the edge off this flu, which has evolved
into walking pneumonia and a serious sinus infection.
In a nutshell.........don't daisy chain MECs from a house clock. Use
individual clock outs to the individual clock ins of the MEC
I terminate my MEC inputs........don't know if it's totally necessary, but I
do it and it seems to have added stability.
Leave your house clock set to 44.1 (if that is what you're using)
and set you default .ppj to 48k. Don't argue or wonder why. Just do it. The
system should sync reliably if you do this and it will definitely be
unreliable if you don't.
The 442 may add *instability* to a situation like this because it will
initialize at boot up of the computer whereas the MECs initialize when you
start Paris. I only had luck with a 442 on my multicard system if the 442
was attached to card A. Still, it could have been for other reasons, so it
wouldn't hurt to give it a try if you need it. There is no reason though
that you should have to have it if it's not necessary.

My HDSP Multiface has a a 9 pin ADAT sync input. It's the new Multiface II
units that don't have the ADAT sync.

It's a no-go. Set default project to 48, same basic problems.
I'll have to order the BNC terminator caps. Athens is too po-dunky to carry
such things.
Couple questions:
1. What's the maximum length for SPDIF cables in my scenario?
2. Would adding a 4th MEC set things up in a more stable sceanario?
I guess worst-case scenario is running the two Kurzweil boxes via analog. I
wish to god they had just put BNC connectors on them. I don't understand why
the whole system will work perfectly one time out of ten....

Jimmy,
I think it is a fact that you always want a MEC plugged into your
last EDS card unless you only have one. I find this to be true
even without an external clock.

just for buying. The other includes selling as well - business account
which requires bank account verification. They are both free, except you

In your paris.cfg file, add the following line:
UseHouseSync=1
Now reboot your computer and double click on the Paris .exe in the EMU
folder insidfe your program files directory.
When Paris launches, set the sync source to Word Clock and set the sample
rate to 48KHz.
Save this in the EMU folder under the name "default project.ppj" (no
quotes). Now, before you close it, save it again to your desktop under the
exact same name.
Close the project and turn off your computer. Now turn off everything else
that is connected with Paris digitally, including the MECs.
Now do the following:
1. turn on your Kurzweil units (and any other processor that is interfacing
digitally with Paris)
2. set your WC module to 44.1, turn it on and let it initialize
3. turn on your MECs
4. boot your computer
5. launch Paris from the default project.ppj on your desktop
Once the 48KHz default project is open, go to one of your 44.1KHz projects
and open it. You should be good to go.
This works flawlessly for me.
Good luck.

The reason that I ask, is that I've just wired one up, and I've noticed that
if an A/B pair is set to "normalled" and then the signal is interupted by
patching a cable into the top jack, the signal that comes out of the top
jack is ground lifted. This adds a shitload of noise to the signal. If
I change the channel's setting to "open," the ground is connected properly.
So, I can make things work fine by switching the chanel to "open" if I plug
a cable into the front, but is this normal for a "normalled" patch bay to
lift the ground when a patch interrupts the signal?
Thanks for any insight into this!
MikeOkay, I understand..

Yes indeed this is for mec only , MR Petinato (did I rememer his name right
?) kindly sked me some god time ago for a photo but since I lost my mail
contacts I thought of posting it here s maybe some others could benefit from
it.
Yes if you don't know about elctronics don't do this by yourself.
Even woth a power off you could get a small bump from the electrolytic.
This mod gave me a better transient response , not so softening sound from
Paris converters.
If anyone could send me the email of Mr Petinato the uy that sells Paris
stuff so I can post this directly to him...
Thank you and sorry if I upset you somehow with no explaining from the very
start.

sheesh...i gots to write these things down...yeah right.I've noticed that the power around here is a little unstable, but of course
that shouldn't be a problem for the news-server as it has a wonderous UPS
on it... ;o)
Well we just got a power glitch here an hour or so back, and when I went
to look at the server, "Uh oh!", out of action. I know the UPS does it's
job at times as, for example, last night I shut down the mains at the meter
box for a few seconds and the server kept running fine. This power glitch
today was only about a second, so I can't see why it would make a glitch...
....but between the server, the UPS, and the power here in this house, the
combination isn't happy. Something in the constant power glitches that seem
to haunt this area manages to get through this particular UPS enough to effect
the server. I'm suspicious changing any one ingredient would be enough to
fix it.
Looks like I'll be shopping for a new UPS shortly...
Cheers,

CREDIT CARDS.
If you get any other account they ding you a percent of your asking fee.
People with credit cards can get their own paypal account and pay the
percent and then transfer the correct amount to you.

JohnMake sure you get one with automatic voltage regulation and
enough range of compensation to deal with sags and spikes.
That could be your problem. We put them on the DSP processors
in our sound installs and they save a lot of service calls.
And of course, make sure there is enough current capacity.
Frankly, we should all help you buy this.

I explained how all the files were perfectly synced so the protools guy could

Five minutes after he left my house he called, saying "I just tried to listen

To which I say....."It's a DATA CD"
"Oh....it's a data CD?"
"Yes, whould you like an audio CD so you can play it for your wife?"
"Yes, maybe that's a good idea"
