OYou mean on your C-16?
If it was working before, something has been changed (inadvertently). Any chance you switched from "regular" to "pro" mode, or vice versa, for the C-16?
I've never lost the use of the C-16 solo button, so I can't give an answer from experience.
TedI know Reaper will sync to PARIS with an RME 9652, but will PT9?looking forward to this )Hi Ted,
On the C16 and even with the mouse clicking it seems the solo
function does not work, only the mute, I beleive there is a setting I think this might be my problem Ill have to test it,
As per manual:
Note: Soloing affects what is heard in the Project's Monitor outputs; if you're listening to the Project's Main
outputs, the Solo feature will have no effect. To learn more about routing outputs, see Chapter 4.
Thanks,
MFOHello everyone,
Dont know if there is specialist around with experience with
Paris 3.0 under Mac OS 9.2.2 and a dual VGA monitor setup,
Here is my issue I have been trying to add a second video
card to my G4 setup so that I can connect two VGA monitors,
the whole thing works if I dont have my Magma 7 X PCI chassis
hooked up to it (which has my 4 EDS cards in it),
when I add the Magma chassis Mac OS gives a system bomb error about "could not load ressources etc..." when trying to load the extensions, if I only disconnect the second display from the VGA port it all works ok with the Magma,
Ive tried every single setup as far as switching PCI cards from
the G4, I even put the PCI Ati video card in the Magma chassis
and the same results, sometimes it will boot ok but as soon as
Paris is loading and when it gets to synchronizing it just freezes.
I have a Mac G4 466 mhz Digital Audio with internal AGP ATI 16mb graphics card. I added a PCI ATI 16mb card in the G4 for the second monitor (even tried it in the Magma chassis same issue).
If I boot with all extensions off it all works ok as far a dual displaying and loading Paris,
Any hints or ideas would be appreciated,
Thanks,
MFOI had similar problems ru

nning 2 video cards on a G4 Quicksilver 733. I could get it to run with 2 EDS cards plugged into the MoBo, but only if I put the ATI PCI card in the slot furthest away from the AGP card. The G4 would not "see" a third EDS card with the ATI PCI installed.
I bought more EDS cards thinking some of them must be faulty, and then a Magna 7-slot chassis and still had conflicts. The PCI slots just didn't seem to handle sharing the data buss with video cards and EDS cards.
I managed to get a stable rig by ditching the ATI PCI card and getting an ATI 7000 dual VGA monitor AGP card on Ebay.
I had to install new drivers which the seller included on a CD.
Having said all that, another possible cause of some of your problems may be a conflict between your motherboard and OS9.2.2 because the Digital Audio G4's had an earlier board architecture.
According to some posts I've read on the Apple user forums, the DA G4's have some quirks that can cause this kind of problem.
It would be worth having a search on the Apple user forums if you haven't already done so.
Yeah - your MEC outputs feeding the control room have to be from the "Monitor" 1/4" TRS outs, not the "Main" 1/4" TRS outputs. I assumed you hadn't switched this...
TedHi Colin,
Thanks a lot for the reply , Ill do some search and if nothing is found Ill get that ATI 7000 dual VGA !
Cheers,
MFOHi,
I don't know if many from you know that already but I would like to share.
If you connect your main outs on your Paris patchbay to out1 and out2 then any change in monitor level will affect your mixdown level volume !
BUT if you connect your main outs to dital out (even if you don't have anything connected at your digital output then you can change your monitor levels during mixdown without affecting the recrding level of your mixdown file.
I don't know if I made myself clear enouph here so I will try to rephrase soe

rt@intdevices.com...that should start the process
found at http://www.parisfaqs.com/
Yeah
THX for fast answear and your support!
If memory serves, they process the PARIS challenge codes once a week (I seem to recall it's Wed) so you shouldn't have long to wait.Hey Lamont -
I saw your post on the Slutz Slate VTM thread. Yeah I find the VCC and the VTM to be outstanding. I'm using them with Presonus Studio One 2 and some outboard.
Really quite amazed at what those two plugs do for a mix.
I also love Mixbuss, but it's still a bit buggy on PC, and my MacBook Pro isn't strong enough to do the heavy lifting VCC and VTM require.
I sent a bunch of stems out for analog summing on an SSL, then put the same stems into Paris. Wow. Paris seemed to have so much head room. However, as part of the summing routine, this guy also makes mix suggestions/tweaks for me, which I welcome.
Hope yer well.
Ted
..now my question is: can you use the VTM and VCC in Paris?
Another big day! I just got the ASIO driver to pass 24 bit audio under Windows 7 64!
I've almost completely re-written the driver and it's now being compiled under VC++ 2010 instead of VC++ 6 (1998).
It turns out that the PARIS hardware requires weird buffer sizes for 24 bit audio. The lowest size I could get to work on my system was 800 samples. I can get 256 samples with 16 bit buffers. I know that Matt had his 24 bit ASIO driver working with 1024 samples. I don't know if he was filling 6400 sample buffers behind the scenes, or if he knew something I don't. But, I've dug and dug and dug to get this to work, so I don't think I've missed anything.
The next step is getting the recording of 24 bit buffers to work and fixing a bug where if the system is busy and misses a few buffer switches in 24 bit mode, it stops passing audio. This happens from time to time in the PARIS app, too, so it's not a new bug. But, it's more apparent with smaller buffer sizes.
Anyway, I'm pretty stoked about getting this to go! I've been fighting with this 24 bit problem for quite a while now.
I'm also going to get a control panel and a graphical way to assign MEC modules put together.
Cheers!
MikeWoohoo!Congrats, Mike - I think this deserves a thread of its own! This is terrific news.
I'm working with a new PC laptop 64bit.
At this point, what hardware could I use to interface with the EDS cards from my laptop. This one has very basic ports. USB and prob hdmi. It isn't too late for me to exchange this baby. TIA - many more on top

ot;floor" and "ceiling" of the MEC as you push it in. it sounds like a dialing modem, but much lower. You have to turn amplifier very loud to hear it. You can see it in the Mixer of Parissoftware. One stripe of levelmeter holds green and second stripe is flickering all the time.I'm looking for it as well... if anyone can help me out in finding it, I'd really appreciate it.You're welcome. I'm glad it worked.Hi Ray,
Yikes... the BSOD. I've had this problem only a few times in the many years (14+) of Paris land. I don't remember what I did that caused it or fixed it.
This may not help but it might and surely can't hurt. Edited crossfades can play havoc in Paris. One thing I do regularly now is is:
1. Select all tracks in the editor. Click in the field and cntrl A. (all tracks now red colored)
2. Open the crossfade tool bar (the x in the tools)
3. Check the crossfade in and out of every edit at once (far left and right) (I use linear / and \). Even if the clips are stand alone or not touching, everything gets a symmetrical linear cross fade.
This works very well, especially if you have hundreds of crossfades and I do not have any lock ups for this reason.
However, if Paris locks up on every project I'm thinking it's something else such as the config, the hardware, any plugins or the XP core subsystem install. Maybe try a reinstall of the subsystem or remove all plugins. Possibly a bad connection with the EDS cable, bent pin?
Check this. After Paris launches and opens the default project go directly to the patch bay and see if all installed hardware are recognized.
In the project window: Are the settings correct. Have you disabled the C16pro feature, disabled DirectX. I also add to the last line of the config: MidiPlayDisable=1
Hope some of this helps.
WayneThat sounds very much like the "crash on exit" bug that plagued early versions of the XP driver, except I'm pretty sure revised drivers had killed that forever, and Mike's for certain. What drivers are you using?Hi All,
I just got the ASIO driver to pass 24 bit audio under Windows 7 64 using the 32 bit version of Reaper at a 200 sample buffer size! At 100 samples, I got some clicks and pops, but that was using a debug version of the driver. 100 or less may be possible on fast machines.
I've also been working on having the ASIO driver support external clock sources. I've made the required changes, but Reaper doesn't support a needed callback for us to use an external clock at 44.1k. That's no criticism of the folks at Cockos. It's a callback that no other hardware uses.
I'm going to turn my attention to recording 24 bit audio, and then get started on the control panel.
Things are going very, very well!
As for getting the PARIS application working under Windows 7 64, I've been reading a huge book on Intel Assembler so that I can decompile and fix the Ensoniq effects code. It crashes when it tries to open the VST plugin directory.

long term with things.
Here are the steps - and they will take years. I guess step zero was the 64 bit scherzo.
1) ASIO driver - figure out how the voice engine works (done) and how we assign MEC modules (about to be done)
2) Fix the effects code - figure out how to build a VST host and how to assign effects to the EDS cards.
3) At this point, I'll know all I need to to write some kind of 64 bit PARIS software, be it all new code or written an an extension to an existing app.
That's what I'm thinking right now. But, I may change direction at some point. I'd also like to write a MIDI sequencer plugin for PARIS that would load in an effects slot and would be timed to the sample position. I may do that, or I may just get a new app going. There are so many possibilities. There's also always the faint hope that I'll get access to the PARIS source.
All the best!
MikeYour timing is pretty good, guys... after more than 16 months not checking things here, I hopped on tonight and saw your posts.
I have a copy of the single proc drivers you're welcome to. Where should I send them? (I'm assuming Chris isn't expecting payment for them, if he is you'll have to settle up with him.)
On a related note, it seems that all the links on parisfaqs.com are dead - no more manuals, etc. are available there. As it happens, I have a copy of most (if not everything) that was hosted there... who knew being a hoarder would come in so handy?
Is there another place we can put everything so they're available to all of us when we need them randomly and don't have access to our usual machines? Do we have, or could we create, a file repository on the PARISwiki for that purpose? kerryg?Micha - I

send feedback, and Reaper will work, too.
Things are never as easy as I hope they will be, but we're making progress.

Oooh!! Red-letter day! Thanks so much Micha, downloading it now! hehe no problem! I do everything to help my fellas in the internets, especially when they can speak german so well and sorry for the long delay...
and I hope the quality is not too messy...been getting this more and more lately and I know the latest PSCL update from Mike was supposed to bring this back down for dual core processors. Any reason it could be rearing its head. Maybe a reinstall of the PSCL? What is the latest you have Mike?

; in length.
Let's see if there is another alternative...
-DonI know of the MAGMA... I was trying to find a less expensive alternative.
-DonI believe some members are using the virtuavia system
http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/Does anyone know how many watts each EDS card uses? I found an affordable MOBO that will take an i7 quad core with 6 PCI slots, but some one reported that it only supplies 10 watts to all 6 PCI slots. Is that enough wattage?
Not sure but the real problem will be the PCI native chipset.
If it's too new a MB the PCI chipset will be sharing with the PCIe chipset and that is a nightmare for PARIS and older PT HD cards.
The best new MB that works with the older PCI cards is....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813153 216&Tpk=NAF92-Q67
This is the only new MB I will recommend and that I know works for PARIS and PT HD PCI cards. wow! 4 pci slots....Thanks for the info...looks good!I just stumbled across this thread, and in case someone is subscribed to it but has been otherwise inactive for a while - the Win7/8 64-bit drivers are finished, see sticky at top of forum! Here's Mike Audet's latest report on the Virtuavia chassis with his new drivers. Btw, don't bother with the 38w version, that's WAY too little power for even one EDS, you need one of the kind that allows you to install a good robust PSU (500w+) yourself.
Hmmm - this MB looks promising. I've got a bunch of cards here and a Magma expansion chassis, but I've been a bit reluctant to dive in for fear yet another "learning curve"...
Not to mention my ASUS P6Te has never shut down properly (it's a hardware problem on the board itself, not a BIOS setting...)
Thanks for the heads up.

1 8 in on one MEC.
I am going to add another 8 in. I plan to install it the second mec so I can record 24 bit to the second realtime mix. Is that the best way to use it?
What are the ADAT cards used for?
I have only used PARIS and Wavelab on my system.
Thanks! Thanks for the reminder, this was my main info source on the driver progress. I've just bought it.Thanks so much Ron! This is really helpful!
Any known glitches or conflicts with this system so far, Ron? How many EDS cards are you running? I have 8 inside a magma chassis, and I wonder if it would be compatible with a system like this...
Mike, I would love to see your configuration as well when you have a minute.
Thanks so much!Hi Guys,
Sorry I've been slow adding to this. I'm just buried in work.
My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H with 8 GB of Kingston DDR2 1066 RAM and an AMD 95 watt 1055t CPU. I'm using the Virtua Via ATX kit expansion chassis. My OS is Windows 7 Professional 64 bit edition.
I've tested the driver with 4 cards, but there is no reason that I know of that it will not work with 8. I'd be happy to help troubleshoot and fix any issues that come up. The biggest thing would be having interfaces on at least every other card.
All the best!
MikeHeya John! Depends on whether you only need up to eight inputs at a time; another thing you could do is just add the 8 into the first MEC and assign the card it's connected to (A) to whatever submix you want to record (all sixteen tracks) into at any given time.
As far as ADAT cards - I suppose there may be some people who are actually using them with ADATS but far more now use them as eight-channel pipelines into and/or out of similarly equipped devices - say eight channels in from a Presonus DigiMax D8 or eight back and forth between PARIS and an RME 9652 to sync with and pass audio to another DAW like Reaper. My system is a Gigabyte P55-UD3R with i7 860 processor and Crucial XMS3 Ram (2x 4gb currently), Antec truepower PSU and have used both Gforce 460 graphics as well as a cheaper Radeon. Also have Texas Firewire card installed.
All working perfectly here on Paris V2.1. Haven't tried 3 but am sure that would be fine. For some reason my version 2.2 didn't want to work with the new driver package on either 32bit or 64bit, I have a feeling that you need to use the packaged installers with the new drivers.
I have also tried in my VirtuaVia ATX expansion - all good.
Only problem I have had is I can't get my Pulsar 1 card to work with the system - so it looks like I may have to get an RME in order to be able to stream audio to from Paris/Reaper....
Wouldn't it be great if in the long term we could somehow do that via the Paris driver ?
Anyway, for now it seems as if the new driver is seriously rock solid on both 64bit and 32bit windows.
I have a chassis that I will sell if someone needs it. I would let it go cheap. I used it with 3 EDS cards for like the past 4-5 years with Mike's 32-bit drivers on a Win 7 32-bit install. It is a PCI to PCI system. It was FLAWLESS the entire time I used it. It is all boxed up and ready to ship, but I took some pictures of it first.
I had to get a new chassis because my new computer didn't have PCI slots, just PCI-E. I paid $400 for my new one. I would let the other one go for $200.00, obo, to cover some of the replacement system.
-PhilHey Kerry,
Thanks for the help!
So I could put both 8 ins in the same mec, assign them to the same submix so I can do 16 in at once,
But I would still need both EDS cards/MECs to mix 32 tracks in real time.
I think I have used the 8 in and the mec's 4 ins together (if I don't mind using the 20 bit inputs), is that ok?

m an SSD. In any case, the boot drive should be connected to the first port. (Usually SATA 0).
I highly recommend Mike's driver package for a hassle free installation. (Trust me, the small cost will save you many hours/days of headaches, and if you have issues, Mike is always happy to help, although he is a busy chap, and others here are more than happy to assist). The package installs v3.0 as well, so no need for a separate driver/program install. Mikes 64 bit driver is working well here. All you do install the EDS's (with interconnects), run his installer, and then replace the installed .exe file with the Pace-free version. (overwrite it manually). Mike's driver is already multi-core processor compatible, so there are none of the hyper-threading tweaks required.
As I said earlier, on newer systems, no special tweaking is necessary. Mike worked hard on this. The only thing that you may need to do is tweak the Paris.cfg file. Deal with that later and if needed. (One tweak I always do is to disable the midi features. They were never properly implemented, anyway).
There is info on the .cfg file in Kerry's WIKI page.
With only two EDS's, I can't see any issues that could arise.
Just for curiosity's sake, what mobo/processor/ram is in your son's computer?
There is no real "quick fix" for your old system. Given you have a newer box at your disposal, just use it. Paris has never been easier to install and run.
FWI, Here is a direct link to Mike's "all in one" installer package. Go get it!:
http://ensoniq.ca/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27&prod ucts_id=44&osCsid=b2i0rdlvpe0s5hucd87vk8ddo4
Forget about any references to the PACE driver. You don't need it, as you have already got the "PACE free" V3.01.
Cheers,
Kim
P.S. I have to clarify a comment in my last post. There is no need for an external clock source if using less than three MECs. You can run as many (up to eight) EDS's within the one system, without issue. Obvious limitation is the number of PCI slots available. I am using four EDS cards, and two MECs without problem. Windows 7 64 bit, quad core AMD Phenom, 8gb RAM.
Just read your post again.
If you "needed it yesterday", just use as is, and remove your SCSI drive and controller. Add another UDMA drive for recording. (The newer the better) Make sure the drive letter is the same as that of your removed SCSI drive. Then copy your projects back to the new drive, k

da. These are about the bottom of the line now, and cheap!! They are quiet, don't generate much heat, etc etc.
Hi Kim,
Thanks again! Nice to get a second opinion. Ditto on everything you said. Maxtors were always cheap and Hitachi's failed right and left. Didn't know about current WD...was looking at them but I've always liked Seagate. And I did look at the A/V drives. The SSDs I acquired are actually laptop drives and one is going in my laptop. I have a removable drive bay and external USB drives for backups so I'm good there. The MB I'll end up using is SATA II. I just downloaded latest BIOS/drivers. Still think my read errors/insufficient speed is a conflict, interrupt, or timing. If I ever get to bed I can maybe get started on this over the weekend...and try dumping SCSI on the old beast.
Good Night!
GaryHi Kerry,
Thanks for starting this thread and the wiki entry!
I just thought I'd mention that if someone doesn't have a PACE free copy of PARIS 3.0 and they need to change the VST path, it can be done by directly editing the config file.
It's found here on a 64 bit system:
C:\Program Files (x86)\E-Mu\Paris Pro\Paris.cfg
On a 32 bit system, it is here:
C:\Program Files\E-Mu\Paris Pro\Paris.cfg
It can be opened in notepad, and the line to edit looks like this (with whatever VST path you have):
VSTDirectory=C:\Program Files (x86)\VB\FFX4\
Putting an asterisk in front of the line disables it like this:
* VSTDirectory=C:\Program Files (x86)\VB\FFX4\
Cheers!
Mike
