out with. These are personal and ownership issues which can only be fixed
by the persons and owners finding a new place to life.
My suggestion? Get in touch with the people you like, reform as a yahoo or
other listserv, and the 'old timers' will be back again. You might even want
to admin the listserv and/or ng. It's not all that miserably complicated.
Think of it this way. Your favorite restaurant, with your favorite waiters
and chef and bartenders shut down. Now you have to find a new home. Hanging
around in the Applebee's that replaced it and complaining gets you nowhere,
even if the owner of the original place buggered off.

Did you look into the metric halo stuff?
http://www.mhlabs.com/metric_halo/products/mio/
I use both the 2882 and the ULN2 with a PB (MB pro is on it's way) and I
am very pleased with them.
The ULN2 has very high quality mic pre's and drivers are very stable (Mac
only)
The +DSP version comes with channelstrip and other nice plugins.
The units are buspowerable for use in the field and the MIO mixer has the
record-
panel, an integrated recording software.
And of course, when your wife is not using it, you may hook it up to your
system:)
And one more thing, the guys at metric halo are awesome both in knowledge
and service après vente and you can visit the MIO forum to find a very civilised

She has a specific project coming up quickly for this setup so she
needed to make her decision today. After considering what she really
needs the gear to do and looking at a list of possibilities, she chose
the TC Konnekt 8 that Dedric mentioned (specs look quite good) along
with a Studio Projects C1. I'm looking forward to hearing them with her
amazing voice. If we don't like the results we can exchange them...

chrisl@adkproaudio.comHi DJ,
EMU simple = No.
Unless she is Sonar the TC Konnekt8 or 24D is pretty rocking. driver and
chip set wise it works no better or worse than the other units in its
price range. The analog line and MIC-pre sound better than the other in
its price range. The effects on 24D can be used on input monitoring or
as a plug-in. using them on the input monitoring side is easy IMHO.
The effects are from the Powercore and run on hardware DSP.

I'm surprised about the latency and phasing issue though. Mine works perfect
with my little crappy G4 Power Book. Just plug it in and go. Oops, I forgot.
Mac's suck. It's probably just my imagination that it's working. ;>)
Seriously, I guess I've been extremely lucky that I don't have these kinds
of problems. I've always just assumed all the marketing hype was at least a
little true and Mac's really were better at "plug and play". Maybe, like I
say, I've just been lucky (knock wood). Anyway, sorry to hear about the
hassles.

Remember what he wants: good mic pre, monitor-able reverb, but
tracking quality isn't all that important since he said he'd be
importing those rough tracks for do-overs later.
He basically needs a Radio Shack cassette player fed by a TC
Helicon VoiceWorks.

If you were into martial arts in the 1970's (and who wasn't?)
you knew of this guy:
http://www.martialinfo.com/comments/BongSooHan/
Anyone remember the "Billy Jack" movies? That was Han in
the fighting scenes, not the actor. Han went on to found one of
the great schools of Martial Arts and influenced thousands.
He will be missed.
DCLaunch Paris,
In the projct window, before you load a project, go to the
"settings" menu (I think) Increase cache and overviews a
bit, quit and relaunch Paris. Increase the settings till
the error goes away.
David.
Steve Cox wrote:
> Where do you change Disk cashe size on a G4?Project window in Paris. Under the settings tab/configurations.
The settings depend alot on how many tracks and how many edits you have.
I personally use 128k in the i/o and 128 meg in the Disk Cache. I also set
the overview cache to 8192 if I don't have a lot of edits, but typically
by the time I get to mix stage I'll up it to 21000k. I currently have it
there.
I have, on occasion, upped the i/o AND cache to 256 (need to manually edit
the paris config file for the i/o) and set the ove cache to 256000. I can't
vouche for the settings in your situation....I'm on a PC, but upping them
will definatly get rid of the error. You just have to strike a balance between
no error and Paris running a little more sluggishly as it has to take bigger
bites data.

I don't remember any video per say.
But The Womb ( http://womb.mixerman.net/index.php ) is planning to begin a
"how to" series on recording various instruments and if I understand
correctly eventually move on to the various aspects of mixing.
The reason I mention this is because I'm pretty sure I am doing the first
"how to" on recording drums today (killing two birds in one recording
session) and depending on how in depth the Engineer wants to get we could
easily be shooting tomorrw...at least that's what I've been told.

I bought a copy of Native Instruments Electronic Instruments 2XT recently
and have tried to install and register it twice now. Each time, I've gotten
a threatening message telling me that I have an Invalid System ID and that
all my information is being forwarded to the NI webmaster for review. The
first time that happened, I sent an email to the NI tech support people.
The response was to do a "clean uninstall" and reinstall. Did that, with
the exact same result, so I've had to send in another email. It's been a
while since I've installed an NI product, but now my memories are flooding
back...
Does anyone else hate the Native Instruments registration process as much as
I do?

products can only be authorized for two machines. If you are installing on a
new machine and you already have used your two authorizations, you can
de-authorize one or both of them.....but this is permanent. If you have
de-authorized your NI app for the machine you are trying to install it on,
you're going to have problems........and of course, when you went the
deauthorization window to perform this process initially, you were greeted
with numbers, not a name that would identify which machine you had
authorized the software for, so it's pretty easy to screw the pooch if you
deauthorize the wrong machine because you can never reload the software on
it again..............neat, huh?

interesting. Looks like the GA-K8NS Ultra 939

Paris mobo with a single core 939 CPU.

So you're basing everything on a self-referential structure? ("Jesus
said that he was Jesus.") Isn't that the same as saying the Flying
Spaghetti Monster said he was the Flying Spaghetti Monster? (See
http://www.venganza.org) Seems to me that using that kind of
self-referential argument "is irrational and allows you to say things
that make no sense", to selectively quote... ;-)
How do we truly know what Jesus said? Aren't we back to the question of
inerrancy of scripture? How can we prove the accuracy of any quotes
from Jesus in the Gospels when the first of the canonical Gospels wasn't
even written until at least 50 CE, and more likely somewhere around 70
CE? And of the four gospels, why is it that only John asserts that
Jesus is God? (Refer back to a previous message when I wondered how the
church would have been different if the Gospel of Thomas had been chosen
by Irenaeus instead of the Gospel of John. But of course he couldn't do
that; he was a fine upstanding member of the Orthodoxy.) Interestingly,
John was the last of the four Gospels, having been most likely completed
somewhere after 90 CE. The Rylands Papyrus, which is the earliest
actual fragment of the John manuscript, dates from about 125 CE. (BTW,
please use "AD" if the more scholarly "CE" offends you.)
> Unless of course, you think all sources are equal, or

I don't believe all sources are equal, but again, who is to determine
which source is true or false? When you tell me that Jesus said that he
was Jesus, am I to infer that you are the arbiter of that truth?
> Both, of course, rest on the assumption of atheism.
Are you claiming that all non-Christians are atheists? There are at
least three major religious groups that profess belief in the God of
Abraham, yet not all of them agree on the role of Jesus.
NOTE: If you substitute the word agnosticism for atheism in that
sentence, then there is a possibility that we may be able to agree.

Again, how do we truly know who Jesus said he was? Can you prove

Absolutely. My belief is that that good reason was and is to control
the masses and indeed, keep them from true enlightenment, since
enlightened individuals rarely make for an orderly society.
> What are your assumptions?
(Since you asked...) :-) I believe I have articulated many of my
assumptions through my questions, but adding to the previous paragraph,
and to put it in the proverbial nutshell, I am not an atheist, I do not
believe in the inerrancy of scripture, I believe that both canonical and
apochryphal writings have been chosen and modified knowingly and
unknowingly by humans over the centuries for various reasons and
agendas, and any cries of heresy are purely protectionist strategies. I
assume that the importance of the Bible is primarily allegorical and I
do not take the resurrection to be a literal event. How's that for a start?

*BINGO!* :-) Isn't this the crux of the entire conversation? How can
you/anyone presume to tell me/us that "you" are right and "we" are wrong
without providing a way to determine this?

Not enough time? Same reason you haven't answered the vast majority of
my other questions? You seem quite willing to take the time to further
your own agenda, imply that I am a heretic and directly accuse Thad of
being a bigot, but when I ask for justification you don't have enough
time? Can you not "respond to a point I have made"?
BTW, do I need to state what I consider to be the obvious? That I have
already indulged in many of those readings? (Or would that be
considered a "credential-comparison" or "establishment of authority"?)

Dj, just stop! That Apple software will seep in to your brain and corrode
it; )
I'll first say I hardly use iTunes, but I do use it on occasion. I'll point
out some things that may or may not be obvious. The price is right! It
will do encoding and audio file format conversion. You can create play list
and organize you music for quick access, and you can also burn audio CDs
with it.
I've used it to dj weddings, parties and camping trips. A true story. I
was at a wedding doing video and the bride was literally crying at her wedding
because, the dj the company sent out didn't bring the bride and father song
he was supposed to. I used the dj's windows laptop and installed iTunes,
down loaded the song and saved the day. I guess I could have used something
else, but it was a long time ago and iTunes worked.
I've used it to search an artist content to find a song when I didn't know
the song title, by playing the snippets. I've listen to a new records to
get a sampling of what's on it before I buy it. Some times I'll check out
movie trailers. Some times, I actually use it to listen to my music while
I'm on the tube. Just drop you CDs in and hit import. You can also do drag
and drop. I also use it to listen to the net radio shows while I work.
There is a lot of cool stuff on iTunes that is free. The thing I find coolest
about it is the Pod casts. Check it out, if you go to the store and click
on podcasts, there is a bunch of categories. select a category and pick

ome thing your interested in and subscribe. It will down load the pod casts.
It is mostly audio and some videos. There are a lot of radio shows, instructional
videos. There is all kinds of stuff, like real-estate, investment, business,
comedy, music, motivational speaking, news, learning video production, cooking
to learning spanish. The best part is most of it is free.
There is a lot there. Have fun with it.
JamesI should have mentioned that you don't have to subscribe to the podcasts,
if you just want to listen or watch one of them, just click on them one at
a time. If it's video, double click on the video to open a larger screen.
There are PhotoShop quick tips video podcasts there. You can also create
your own podcasts and up load them.
There is one screwy thing about itunes. If you add original music that has
no meta info, iTunes will try to figure out what it is based on song length
or something, and it will sometimes give it a wrong name. So you kind of
have to watch it, and correct the name if it does that.
