MikeAwesome news Mike. You've worked really hard and deserve that all goes well. How is everything else going? Great I hope. Thanks for all the hard work..
I knew this car still looked good polished up...carb just needed some tweaking to perform with these newer gasoline formulas. ok wowgood job mike!Go Mike you'll get us there!!That's a great solution, and I would absolutely do that. The problem is that I only ever track myself... my PARIS setup is just for three people - me, myself, and I.
I am using a 50' cat5 cable at the moment, but 15' of that is eaten up just routing the cable through the vents of the isolation booth, and since the booth is essentially in the kitchen, the cables also run through a high-traffic area (with a high density of cable-eating cats). So it's not an ideal setup, and really limits where I can put the CPU.
I did find a solution for every other cable in the studio:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/DYNADOCK-W20-WIRELESS-USB-PUERTOS/
It isn't available in the US yet for some reason, so I had to buy it in the UK, but it works a treat. So the only cable

This was never intended to be the successor to the NG. I'd set the forums up as a technical/development-focused add-on, sync'd to the NG with Kim's kind cooperation, about six months before his sudden departure for Europe took us all by surprise. We certainly never talked about me taking over, it was always assumed between us that the NG would continue focused on the community and this place focused on the platform.
When the NG didn't come back up after an extended absence I talked it over with a few folks and cobbled together an emergency "shoutlist" from whatever emails I could scavenge and sent out a heads-up so people could convene here while we waited to see what was up. I'd had you down as having been contacted, but had also heard you were very sick and really hesitated to pester you with PARIS stuff. Now I'm sorry I didn't follow up more diligently, and I'm sure glad you're here now!Not sure if this is anyone on here but thought it was great to see a premium charged for tracking in PARIS

WayneI've been wondering if something of this nature (TC Finalizer Express) would really be worth it @ about $1000 bucks.
If I follow BT's advise I can get my mixes hot enough but they seem to not have the presence, punch, tightness, clarity and brilliance that I'd like to hear. Although good, just

Tedfire fox does it for me although I get bumped out about once a week for what ever reasonTry sending it to a mastering house...you'd be surprised what they can do.
That being said the more you improve your recording techniques the easier it is to mix and the more you improve your mixing abilities the less mastering is needed.
edit: wtf do I know...I hit mixes with sticks
Yup, kind of what I was expecting.
I could learn a lot by using the master house for two songs and trying to make my mixes in PARIS as close to it on their own.
What I read in the TC manual was pretty much things we can do in the global or 2 ch stereo stems, but would be a bit hard for me. The TC consolidates pretty good into one package. This I can do.
I will check out the Ozone.
Thanks,
Wayne
Thanks.Hi gang,
I downloaded Ozone 4 demo/trial and intalled it. It's a 64 bit but their FAQ says it'll work on a 32 bit Windows platform. I put the two .dll in the C:\windows\sys32\Ensoniq/Plugin folder during the install. In the Paris config I set the folder to the same as above.
I'm running multi core XP with Mike's plugs.
The plug shows up in the "native" area. How do I get it on to the global insert?
Waynenot gonna happen - no native plugs on the global master if I remember correctly...render your stereo mix...bring it into 2 tracks and work from thereYeah what he said. I mentioned in the other thread to bounce down your final two mix and re-import (or drag it into the editor window) and then perform "Mastering" duties on it there...
TThat's what I thought and I had been testing it that way.
I was hoping to apply the plug to the global much like NoLimit. It's stereo on the global but mono on each channel.
Ozone appears to be a stereo plug (S>S) so do you think there will be any problems if each channel, panned hard L and R has a stereo plug each? Might be tricky?
Also I assume I'd have to match the settings on each channel, or at least be similar.
Thanks for the help and ideas.
WayneI believe if you use the FFX4 chainer you can strap a stereo plug on channel one and it will work on channels 1 & 2 but don't quote me on that.
Dimitrios would be the one to contact about thatAt the bottom left of the "select effect" dialog that pops up when you want to load a Native Insert is the checkbox for Stereo. Select that, then either use the FFX4 Chainer stereo version, and load up Ozone, or load Ozone directly into that Insert slot.
Either way (with or without the wrapper, depending on how you've set up your plugs) Ozone will load in stereo.
TAnd if nothing else, Ozone comes with a great write up on mastering...
http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/ozone/OzoneMasteringGu ide.PDFTed nailed it.
fyi - I load Ozone directly in the native insert, no chaining.
I never even saw the stereo button. I checked the reference manual and it states for native inserts, "When the stereo button is selected, the plug is then ap

plied to the next higher up neighbor channel".
Sure enough. I now only need to edit the single plug on the Left channel and it applies it to both the left and right channels.
Puuuuurrrrfect.
This fixed a second issue I had with Ozone 4. About 30 of the 100 or so presets in Ozone 4 were so CPU intensive (approx 85-95%) that I could only load one channel plug. If I loaded a 2nd, Paris would stutter and stop and greet me with the "Paris can not stream fast enough . . . select a slower machine . . . bla bla" error message.
But now I select the stereo button and I only need to load up one instance and bounce the L/R mix. Loving life now.
For the other 70 or so presets, I was able to run six mono inserts on six channels (I didn't even know I was running them in mono, but it did sound good) before the CPU gets in the 75-80% range. I thought they were just less CPU intense then the other plugs. So I'm good to go now. I can use these during my standard mixing session.
Thanks so much.
fyi - a few of Ozone 4 presets are doing some things that really help the mix. My mixes are sounding richer, deeper, cleaner, tighter, brighter and with better separation. I love the way it can separate the kick from the bass guitar. I will examine the data to see how it does it but for now I'm smiling. My mixes do sound CD quality polished. Quite amazing.
Wayne
I didn't noticed that either...ya learn something new every dayFor about $200 bucks I think I'm leaning towards Ozone. I've got a demo/trial that I downloaded and I'm testing as we speak. Thanks for the heads up on this one.
wayneDon and Ted,
Thanks for help.Glad to help out
Nice when you learn something and it enhances what you're working on
TIf you wind up liking Ozone, check out Izotope's "Alloy" channel strip plugin too. Adds some really nice alternatives to the PARIS EQs and compressors, and we find it "plays nicely" with PARIS too. Finally dusting off the old home studio after years of neglect.. Still have PARIS on my old circa 2000 desktop.
I have the MEC and 1 EDS card. Im hoping I can buy a new laptop and run PARIS on that, if I use a PCI adapter? What should i know before i shop?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks!
Mark
Kerry had sent me some info on the PCI adapter awhile back. Couldn't find it. Maybe he'll chime in. I'd like to know about this too.Hi Mark, and welcome! Yep, it's good times for PARIS users, there are a lot more good options nowadays than there were six or seven years back.
You can use a Magma chassis to pull this off, although users are reporting that the much less expensive VirtuaVia adapters work perfectly. It appears you'll have to contact VirtuaVia directly - you don't want the straight PCIe - PCI version found here or here, you'll have to get exactly the same thing but with the adaptor cable appropriate for your particular laptop (PCMCIA, ExpressCard etc). Let us know what you discover!thanks kerry,
would the following item work?
http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/expresscard-34-to-pci-expansion -box-p29858.html
i see it is much cheaper than the magma products, but still pricey.. almost $300 US plus who knows what for shipping...
4 slots seems like overkill. i did not find a 1 slot product on the virtuavia site, but i will email them to ask.
although i should wonder does the EDS-1000 with its daughterboard attached fit within a 1 slot dimension, or would i need extra room anyway? hmmm
thanks again for pointing me in the right direction,
regards,
mark
sorry, didn't mean to be so lazy.. i just went and took a look inside at the EDS-1000 (first time in years hehe) and i see that it takes up only 1 slot width-wise, but i had forgotten how LONG it is.. it is considered a "full" length PCI card.. so that means only the (same price luckily!) "long box" version by virtuavia will work, which is here:
http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/pci-express-to-pci-expansion-bo x.html
i sent an email to inquire about units with fewer slots (and hopefully fewer dollars!) so ill update if hea

went black and crashed several times, at this time I am
resetting the card, and doing a reinstall of the drivers,
I will keep you posted, thanks, Johnny
Dear paris users,
Do you somtime have unexpected variations of monitoring level ?
tweeking the knob can somehow bring level back to 0db, and then it go wild again.
i suspect it comes from a C16.
let me know.
damien Ahah! You have a dirty C16 - see here for the fix. Takes about half an hour to an hour.
i got a nvdia video card and no problem. Maybe you can check the IRQ on all PCI devices in hardware panel, verifying no IRQ is shared with EDS cards, nor between diferent EDS.
problem is there's no way to change this : just plug them in difernt slots in this case.
wow.
thanks Kerry i go for it.
Update: It seems I may have a dead EDS 1000 card, I traded out
the one I was using for a different one and everything seems
to be working correctly, thanks to you all for responding in
time of need, that's what makes this site so valuable to the
Paris community, cheers to Kerry and Mike and all who make up
the team!
Still rocking on Paris! JohnnyGlad u got it sorted. Too bad an EDS has gone down...Hey Mike
That is great. I bought your xp driver and am in the process of putting a pc system together (migrating from mac) I decided to try win 7 32 bit as others have had some success. I am excited about the prospect of moving Paris into the future!
Count me in for the new driver when it is available.
Thanks for all your hard work!
KurtLong time Mac user but moving to PC since all new development is on that platform (Thanks Mike)
New territory for me so I thought post my intentions and get some feedback.
I am looking at ADK to put it together for me. Gigabyte-AMD 790XT MBO w/ 3 PCI slots
AMD Phenom 1090T 3.2 ghz 6 core.
700 Watt PSU
4 gig mem
Win 7 32 bit pro OS with Mikes XP Drivers.
My big concern is the pci slots (3) I have a 3 card system and read a little about IRQ conflicts. My brain cells have not been exposed to these bugs living in Mac land for so long so I thought Id get feedback from the PC experts on the forum.
I do have a 7 slot magma chassis / PCI Host card but wondered if there are any issues I need to know about. Special instructions for tweeking etc.
If I go with the Magma chassis for the cards ... it does open up more MBO/ Processor possibilities but like the idea of all in one box to save on space.
Thanks
Kurt
UPDATE: ADK Does not recommend the AMD AM3 series so the above build is Null and Void
They recommend intel i7. This would require running Paris cards in magma chassis due to only 1 available legacy pci slot.thanks everyone. Actually - i decided to take the suggestion and just pick up a system. Hopefully it will be here next week and i will have my old projects back soon. thanks. stay tuned as it might be up for sale in a couple weeks. thanks again.anyone know how to sync up paris to an alesis HD24? paris won't recognize it, because of the 24 track format of the machine, and paris is looking for only 8 tracks--- years ago, I heard the only way to do it is to hook the HD24 to a BRC, then the BRC to paris. supposedly, the BRC somehow will split the HD24 to make it look like it's 3 separate 8 track machines, which paris can then recognize. I don't have a BRC, so I haven't tried this for myself, and I don't know if it really works, or what the procedures might be--- i only have 1 adat card, installed on my mec--- does anyone have any real knowledge about this?- about what it would take to get paris to recognize an HD24? i really like the recording quality of the HD24, and think it's an awsome fit with the sound quality of the mighty paris system. there are several reasons why i often will like to record to the HD24, then transfer things to paris, for further work- or just keep the files on the HD24, and use the paris mixer on playback, if i could only get it to sync up!-

Also, is that 6G of the OCZ Ram? Does your system see 6G of RAM? I was thinking XP only saw about 3.5G or so. (or I noticed you have WinXP64 maybe that's the difference from my XP computers). Anyhow, does the 6G make a difference from what you can tell?
The video card looks like it has 1dvi, 1vga, and 1hdmi output. Are you able to run dual monitors from this? (sorry, I've not been keeping up with tech. It says duallink-dvi on the box but I only see one place to plug in my monitors). sorry if this is a dumb question - the tech lingo often flys right past me leaving me wondering the basics - like how many monitors can I plug into this thing? (LOL)
http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N220GT-MD1G.html
- thanks,OOh, I'm excited! Everything is working smoothly so far, with none of the hoops I had to jump through before. I'm stoked!
Attached is a screen dump of my quad core, four EDS, four C-16, four monitor setup. This box is also the quietest I've ever built for Paris! (..and I didn't need a magma or similar..)
Now for the dubious task of installing all my plugins.
Colin, if you can still get this mobo, get it while you can.
I noticed you are in Australia. You may be lucky! (It was dirt cheap at MSY... $110, but that was some time ago..)
It uses DDR2 ram, so you may like to get that too, before you start paying too much of a "premium", for legacy hardware.
As far as processors are concerned, no problem. The mobo is good for a six core phenom, I believe.
Next test will be to load up a 64 track project, once I install the necessary plugins.
Fantastic news so far, Kim! No sign of IRQ conflicts as yet, I take it? The 64 track project and plug-ins will smoke any little gremlins out. Looking forward to seeing PARIS carving it up on a really fast quad-core AMD. Hey Colin.
I've tracked down possibly the last source of these mobos.
Are you in melbourne, per chance?
KimG'day Kim, I'm in Darwin, N.T. I buy lots of tech stuff, parts and musical gear by mail order and on-line shopping though. Can you give me the contacts for the vendor? Maybe I can follow it up from here.
Hey there!
Just read your post. I am in a similar situation and seem to have come across a pretty good combination of hardware.
Have a look at my posts.
Cheers,
KimHmmm, messed that post up, sheesh!
Hi again, as topic description (which doesn't seem to show), says, "Trying to see if any way to get v8 plugins from Waves to work in PARIS Pro 3.0" Anyone know, please?
And hi to anyone whom I know, nice "new" (to me) forum here!HI Wilson -
Nice to see some "old timers" popping in here again the last while.
What's the latest version of Waves you are running successfully? I know that 7.1 works.
The thing is to scan/install using the shellvst2.exe utility.
Some more info can be found here in this thread from our helpful friend Dimitrios
http://kerrygalloway.com/ParisForums/index.php?t=msg&got o=81648&&srch=ffx4+chainer#msg_81648
Take care
Tedperhaps now.
Thanks dnafegot our collective fingers crossed
Yeah me too. Much better but still not perfect. Probly good enough to work on. Gotta learn its likes and dislikes. Anyone ever use console to run your v s t plugs? Thanks. I did see that and I had some partial results in that I could load an individual plugin, the EQ, though the window didn't appear correctly, the area where the EQ would show was transparent, showing the windows below.
I haven't run Waves since version 2!Mike, that's great news!!! I will be upgrading my comupter soon, and will be getting the latest of whatever you have...drivers etc. thanks for your amazing work!!
RodHi Colin.
I tried PM'ing you but you have disabled PM'ing.
If you can PM me your email address, we can talk about it, and not clog up this forum. It's a bit complicated, but the supplier doesn't do mail-order, but I *think* I have secured the very last two of these mobos in the country. (courtesy of a friend in Victoria). (One is a spare for myself, in case of power surge etc, and the other, well, I may keep as another spare because I have a second PC running a 32 channel Frontier Dakota system,(also PCI-based) which is sync'd to my Paris box, via ADAT).
Also, How many EDS cards do you intend to use?
What I'm suggesting is: If you are migrating to PC land, and IF you REALLY need four PCI slots, (four EDS cards), and IF you can prove you have paid for both the Paris 3 software, AND Mike's multicore drivers, (and IF I get these mobos - still unknown), I could make an image of the raw install that I've created, and send it to you on DVD-ROM. Then all you would have to do is to re-jig the drivers for your four-monitor setup, if they differ from mine).
I'm running four 22" LG widescreen monitors, and all is well.
Cheers,
Kim Wow, this is ultra cool Jim, do keep us posted. I'm a
