Is it time to do the XP PARIS reinstall dance?!
Just noticed minimum requirements for the 0404 say service pack

problems and where do I get XP SP2?
TIA,

I bought two of their 250's and they're working perfectly so far (about a
year). Though my WD120 is still going strong also.
I've of zero failures on Seagates over the past two years, but have heard
of several with issues with WD drives and others. Seagate appear to be on
top of the game lately, and the drives are very very quick also.
Cheers,
Kim.

Who needs humans anyway. Yes, even a virtual ticket buying audience is
possible.

Pete,
You've done the things I would try. If you want to try
Service Pack 2 it is here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389#E0EC0ACAAA
I'm not sure this will fix anything in Paris. As a matter of
fact I think SP2 is a bad thing unless absolutely necessary.
Paris is not all that happy with it as I have heard.
I don't have enough right answers for you but a fresh install
should certainly make all things better with Paris. I hope.
I wish smarter people would chime in for your sake.
I think Erling has an EMU card. I'm not sure he's using it within
a Paris computer though. You might try him directly.
Maybe start a new thread with something eye catching for the
smarties!

trying to install the EMU card. See if that works, I bet it does.
Do you have a default ppj saved? If so, does it have 4 eds submixes in the
template?
If it works when you put all 4 eds cards back. Hide your default ppj, and
make it start with no default. Then start adding things back.

It's been a while since I've used Paris on XP, but right offhand, I'd say
that if the 0404 needs SP2, it needs SP2, and by not having had SP2 loaded
when the drivers were loaded, demons from hell have populated this machine
and an exorcism may be required.
Before performing the exorcism though, I would recreate the *exact*
configuration that worked prior to introducing the *possessed* device and to
double check the number of submixes that pop up in the master mixer window.

What is the best way to move tracks from protools into Paris. Id like to
keep the tracks separate (not a two track mix) and mix/over dub in paris.
It's on an Mbox (PT 6.2 LE) setup now with only two outs. Is there a way
to do this?
Thanks again for the help...ROD,YOU THE MAN!Put back all 4 cards and UAD and PARIS started
like normal.
Yes,I have a default I run from with 4 EDS/submixes.
So your saying start PARIS not from the default. Then try putting
in the EMU card?
Thanks a ton.PARIS sure is a finicky beast.

the UAD.PARIS opens as normal.I do have a 4 EDS/submix default
I run from so this may be my problem(see Rods post below).
I guess if I try the 0404 card again I need to get SP2.
Maybe setting up a default without the 4 cards too.
Thanks,

see if that works. Then you will know if you
need sp2 or not. If it works, start adding ade cards, 1 at a time, then the
UAD card till everything works. Take it one step at a time, control the variables.

TCBI'm running 2 card paris setup with one C-16 and one MEC, on a Mac with O/S

Thanks in advance.
KJthis is related to your onboard effects presets. Not sure how/where to fix
this on a Mac.

Here's one that appears to be open source:
http://www.free-soft.ro/desktop/desktop.html
....not that I've tried it.
Do a google on "virtual desktop", or try here at Tucows or your favourite
download site:

I'm sure some guys here have some experience in usage though. I've just heard
them talked about.

I choose Polesoft Lockspam to fight spam, and you?
http://www.polesoft.com/refer.htmlCould it be much worse than the predictable pedestrian likes of the stuff J.
Williams has been putting in front of us since ET? Just my opinion of
course but I'm beginng to think that he ran out of good ideas 20 years --
ago for Cinematic score anyway. I was more impressed with what Limp Bizkit
did with MI in 4 minutes than the last 10 years of "the man's" work.

I would encourage getting to work with wormhole for that.
Wormhole can do no problem at least 24 audio tracks (they travel 32bits !)
from one pc to another.
Under Paris wormhole has to be wrapped from FXPansion the only working wrapper
for wormhole known to Dimitrios :)

you could try dragging the file across (avoiding the PACE hassle is always

e right key combination. Then in my mind I always
have development tools open in workspace 1, command terminals in workspace
2, a web browser in workspace 3, and 'misc' in workspace 4. I've gotten so
comfortable with this at work that I'm thinking two big flat panels at home
and space 1 is for Live, space 2 is for SX, space 3 is for plug-in/synth
editors, and space 4 is for browser/email/etc. It's more work than I expected
to get this working under XP.

And here I thought that this was a family forum, rate PG...Glad you got it working. Yes, PARIS will only import .wav, .sd2 and of
course .paf files. .wav and .sd2 only at 16bit. I use soundApp all time to
convert 24bit sd2's to 24 bit paf's. It's a great little program.

>Hey Rich,
I have a Pearl BRX Masters Studio Birch kit in my studio and I've been
really happy with the Aquarian Super-Kick I head. It uses a felt ring
attached to the inside of the head. The front head is a an Evans black

6" in the hole and angled toward the beater, and I very rarely have to use

if not, a little EQ or a second beater mic does the trick. I use Evans G2's

EQ:
http://www.aixcoustic.com/index.php/Products/8/0/ (Electri-Q) (up to 64
bands)
Also the freeware version:
http://www.savioursofsoul.de/Christian/Plugins.htm (Posihfopit).
Probably the best free/inexpensive EQs I've come across. Both have analog
or digital modes (Posihfopit also has British and Scream modes).
The freeware EQ seems to have more options but that may be a demo limitation
in Electri-Q. Right click and hold on a frequency node to get filter
options, and there a many. The only thing I didn't find are steeper, 4-6
pole HPF and LPF filters, but overall it sounds very good. Sweeps are
nice with these EQs (fully automatable of course).
FYI,
DedricMake sure you install it on the bottom of the rack or everything might start
getting creamy...

Anything I need to know about the install or is the Vonengo one maybe a
better choice.
I'm running no other DX plug-ins (or VST now that I think about it)
Thanks!
CraigBTW - this one isn't so great for the mix bus or mastering, at least in
analog mode. It isn't linear phase, but minimum phase, so it does affect
depth and space adversely. Pretty cool on tracks though.
PLParEQ is a more accurate for stereo material (linear phase), but there
isn't a free version any longer.

ARGH!! Now that song's been in my head all day!
A friend of mine was telling me how at his work, the elevator makes a "ding
dong" sound when it arrives at your floor, in which apparantly the note drops
a fifth from the ding to the dong, and it is at just the right pitch to remind
him of the start of the song "Feelings, nothing more than..."
Hence he spends most days at his work quietly humming to himself "Feelings,
nothing more than..."
Now I know how he feels.
"I'm not that innocent!"
Cheers,
Kim.

Anyone familiar with whats available in the digital patchbay area ?
Cheap is the right word ?
I mostly need it for adat transfer/switching...
If there are extra spdifs thats a plus.
Regards,
DimitriosHey Dudes and Dudettes...
I've got a project coming up that will neccessarily include orchestra
and some other fiddly-bits that my synths won't do convincingly. So,
I've gotta get a soft sampler.
Having looked at a few of the sample libraries like vienna and kirk
hunter, it seems to me that NI Kontakt 2 is the way to go. Now, as some
of you may have guessed, I a big steinberg
fan...cubase/nuendo/wavelab/etc.. but having dld'd an..ahem..."working
demo"....cough, cough.. of Halion, I wasn't as impressed with it as I
thought I'd be. Wasn't happy with the interface and it seemed to be
pretty pretty demanding. I already *have* those guys in the studio, I
don't need my tools to all passive-aggressive too....lol
Before I shell out any actual dough for this cookie, what's you take on
the whole thing and, more importantly, on Kontact/Halion pro's'n con's.
cheers
jefCan you post the free version?

Hey Dudes and Dudettes...
I've got a project coming up that will neccessarily include orchestra=20
and some other fiddly-bits that my synths won't do convincingly. So,=20
I've gotta get a soft sampler.
Having looked at a few of the sample libraries like vienna and kirk=20
hunter, it seems to me that NI Kontakt 2 is the way to go. Now, as =
some=20
of you may have guessed, I a big steinberg=20
fan...cubase/nuendo/wavelab/etc.. but having dld'd an..ahem..."working =
demo"....cough, cough.. of Halion, I wasn't as impressed with it as I=20
thought I'd be. Wasn't happy with the interface and it seemed to be=20
pretty pretty demanding. I already *have* those guys in the studio, I=20
don't need my tools to all passive-aggressive too....lol
Before I shell out any actual dough for this cookie, what's you take =
on=20
the whole thing and, more importantly, on Kontact/Halion pro's'n =
con's.
cheers

I use an old Opcode 2 port SE that does just that. Works like a charm.

Logic still has a few bugs that keep me from giving it a wholehearted
recommendation, but if you know the workarounds it does a lot.
Digital Performer also does this and DP seems to be fairly popular with
film composers. Look at both and choose the one that works best for you
(or get 'em both if you like).
The Mac dual G5s work great with either program. I use a dual 2.5GHZ and
it rocks. The Intel Macs may be out later this summer...just a heads u

I've read through all the posts on this word clock setup but nothing
allows it to happen for me as of yet. The only thing I haven't tried
is terminators on the Mecs. Still can't find 75ohm ones around here.
I have/had a default project set up to 48k, External Sync in paris.
I am clocking only 2 Mecs in XP(with Magma) from the Lucid Wordclock =
Generator.
I've turned off the Mecs and turned them back on after the Lucid.
Both Mecs are getting their own WC with cables of equal length. I have =
added
UseHouseSync=3D1 on the last spot in the Paris.cfg .
Most often Paris crashes before the projects actually open. It took
me quite a while just to get a default project to accept 48k and =
External Sync
without freezing up. It corrupted my default project one time.
Do I need to UseHouseSync=3D1 line with only two Mecs?
I think I read that David suggested running the Mecs in series from the =
Lucid.
Sounds odd but I'll try anything to get this to work.
Also, is there supposed to be an EDSTransfer=3D8,8 ? I may have been =
added
this years ago and never removed it. I'll remove it if it's not needed.

------=_NextPart_000_0368_01C66B9D.A169F0B0--Tom, This should work with no problem. Something's going on.
You don't need EDS transfer 8=8 loose it. That was for the early UAD versions.
It's fixed from the UAD end.
You shouldn't need UseHouseSync=1 for 2 mecs, but it shouldn't hurt.
It's pretty important to use REAL GOOD WC cables. I use Zaolla.
Is your Lucid set to "Word"? (not super)
That's all I can think of. It should be working.

Tom........suggestions/answers below:

I've read through all the posts on this word clock setup but nothing
allows it to happen for me as of yet. The only thing I haven't tried
is terminators on the Mecs. Still can't find 75ohm ones around here.
These made a difference on my system
I have/had a default project set up to 48k,=20
Did you open Paris from the Paris.exe in the C:\\Program =
Files\EMU\Paris folder?
Did you name this project "default project" (no quotes)
Did you save this default project to C:\\Program Files\EMU\Paris =
folder?
Are you opening Paris from this project, not from a desktop shortcut =
to this project?
External Sync in paris.
Sync source should be "word clock", not *external*
I am clocking only 2 Mecs in XP(with Magma) from the Lucid Wordclock =
Generator.
I've turned off the Mecs and turned them back on after the Lucid.
My boot sequence:
1. turn on any external processor that is connected to the WC device =
or that is connected digitally to any MEC
2. turn on WC
3. turn on MECs
4. turn on Paris DAW
5. start Paris
6. navigate to default project .ppj and launch Paris from this.
Both Mecs are getting their own WC with cables of equal length. I =
have added
UseHouseSync=3D1 on the last spot in the Paris.cfg=20
This should be OK
Most often Paris crashes before the projects actually open. It took
me quite a while just to get a default project to accept 48k and =
External Sync without freezing up. It corrupted my default project one =
time.
again...........sync source should be *word clock*, not *external*
Do I need to UseHouseSync=3D1 line with only two Mecs?
No, but this wouldn't hurt.
I think I read that David suggested running the Mecs in series from =
the Lucid.
Sounds odd but I'll try anything to get this to work.
Try setting your sync source to *word clock*
Also, is there supposed to be an EDSTransfer=3D8,8 ? I may have been =
added
this years ago and never removed it. I'll remove it if it's not =
needed.
Tom
I think you're OK there.

Thanks guys,
I'll try again tomorrow after I recover from tonight's gig and
do a quick uke and acoustic guitar jingle.
I was setting Paris to Word Clock. I was booting from the
C:\\Program Files/EMU\Paris\Default Project.ppj
Do the caps matter?!?!
I will remove both EDSTransfer=3D8,8 and

DJ,
DOes this machine have no clocking/jitter problems ?
Do you use it for important routings ?
I would like to have attached on my 3 mecs either the ad converter outboards
or the Pulsar in/outs.
Two ,three routings one for recording and a couple for mixing.
Regards,
Dimitrios

David,
5 cards and they are attached to A and E. I thought you said to
connect from Mec to Mec in this setup. It seems like it is
defeating the purpose of an outboard WC with this wiring.
If it's the best (only) way it will work then that's what I'll do.
I was going to delete EDSTransfer=3D8,8. Maybe not then huh?
I will use the EXE file to start this time. Is this only to set it up?
I will need to use my default project (projects) in the future.
I'll check the config settings and tell you what I've got. It has
been a little sluggish but stable at upwards of 35 tracks most
of the time with lots of plugs. Never a problem printing basics
which is usually 18 tracks or so.

Hey Tom,
How many EDS cards do you have? If you have more than two,=20
make sure that the second MEC is connected to the highest=20
"letter" card. Run a short BNC cable from the WC out on the=20
Master MEC to the WC in on the second MEC. Do not use the=20
house sync line. Start paris from the *EXE file*, not the=20
default project (this can be done with a shortcut on the=20
desktop). Once Paris *finishes* launching (no more flashing=20
lights on MEC or modules) open a project. When the project=20
has finished opening, select WC sync in the project window.=20
Wait for all lights to stop flashing again, then try to=20
play. If it works (and it should) do a "save as" and rename=20
so it saves the WC input option. When you go to lauch the=20
project again, launch Paris itself first, then open the=20
project from within Paris.
I start all periferals with a rack mount power bar first=20
(console, WC gen, MEC's, convertors etc etc) and fire up the=20
computer last.
I think the default transfer line was something like 8-16,=20
but I can't remember exactly.
What are your config settings for Paris? this may also play=20
a part. I use 128/128/80/med IIRC... but it has been a=20
while since I checked.
Good luck!
David.

p for
a class at a community college, you can get the student discount, it's about
10%. Look at apples discount pricing for education. The best deal on Apple
is if you sign up for the student ADC program. It cost $99.00 for the year,
you get all O/S upgrades for free for a year, and a one time discount on
hardware, usually 20% off, accept on the MacMini. That is the best deal
anywhere, it is below dealer cost. All ways look for the free printer deal
when you buy from Apple.
FYI, in September Apple runs a student special on iBooks, and you get a free
iPod, or equivalent discount.

Ok, first thing is that I believe dual core/dual processors are kind of a no
no with Paris. Some Intel guys got it going, but I don't recall anyone
saying that they have AMD systems running dual successfully.
Next..... Matrox has been proving itself less and less of a friend to the
Paris user. Never never but NEVER use Matrox drivers from their website in a
Paris rig. Use WinXP standard built in ones, which might be a real issue for
you using a newer PCI-e card. See if Windows can detect and install native
driver support ON ITS OWN... not the matrox ones. If you already installed
those, you're probably hosed on that one. Once Windows gets a driver it
hangs on until the death (or system drive wipe, whichever comes first) and
hacking it out of there is a nightmare.
Saying that you are using a newer mobo, it does have the right PCI spec for
using Paris EDS cards, yes? Double check that is the case if you're not 100%
sure.
The EDS driver for WinXP now sits in the system, not the audio portion of
hardware manager. Midi will still be in it's usual place.
Error 1/1 means it doesn't connect to the hardware/see the hardware when you
start the Paris application. I'd follow that road first.
Could be all the above, might be any one of them alone... but, this gives
you things to try Lou.
G'luck!
