>>Hi my friends,
I have upgraded many pieces of equipments for the last 6-7 years and I have
come to a point where I can judge what is best for many of them.
Always the bypassing of mains electrolytics gives a different sound.
With the right caps more frequencies are revealed and you can shape the spectrum
better.
Almost always the 0.01uF reveals highs and 0.1 mids.
1uF reveals lows.
In my Great River neither 0.1 or 0.01 did any difference but 1uF broght some
bass response I needed.
Note that I have Lundahl tranformers inside Great River MP which have great
mids but lack somehow in bass.

ADI-PRO8 mad a huge-hugest difference because I use the DA section for monitoring.
I have never heard any RME sounding like ADI-PRO8 after the mod.
What I did is changed the stock 4580 chips on channels 7,8 to LM6172 , bypassed
the output cpacitors on 7,8 with Wima 0.01 and made a big mod on power supply.
I changed mains capacitor from 50uF to 100uF and on separate circuit board
I put as bypassers.
0.01 Wima, 0.047 Wima, 1uF Wima, 10uF electrolytic 105o
Firstly I had a 0.1 instead of the new 0.047 but to correst some tinny boxiness
in sound I put the 0.047
Beleive me the sound has a huge difference.
A stock ADI-pro8 sounds warm (not much mids) and swett.
The new ADI-PRO sound s right oin your face with mids, highs and bass, perfect
imaging ,depth of space.
For the above some elements must be taken into consideration.
I have in my mains input just before voltage regulating with big polyester/polypropylene
(wima) capacitors a 0.1 and 0.01.
This is a well kept secret amoung big studios that have lectronics engineers
in their stuff, regulation and filtering
DON'T use commercial RF filters at all in your mains.
They compress the sound and do not let the sound breath at all after some
level.
Now in Paris power supply this is a switching supply like ADI-PRO8
So bigger cap makes a difference (not very big) bypassed with 0.01 ( i did
not like much 0.1 because gave me more boxy sound)
0.01 is magical for great high mids/highs.
Ok I did not AB but I hear a difference on recorded tracks, remember I don;t
use Paris DA for monitoring (SPDIF to PULSAR to ADI-PRO8)
The rule is not much higher cap then needed sometimes higher mains cap is
not needed i.e higher caps inside Great River made the sound SLOW !
0.1 and 0.01 uf inside Great River MP made no difference !, but 1uF gave
me some bass I needed (Great river has Lundahl transformers)
I encourage inside Paris power supply to leave the 180uF stock capacitor
and just put a WIMA MKP or FKP (or Multicap-Musicap-expensive)of a 0.01 uF
value with at least ~250V as bypasser
All the above were/are try and listen and I spent many hours in my life not
writting music but instead experimenting.
I am happy to share my knowledge and encourage to try and listen for yourself
with any changes.
Most of the times A/B was not needed because I mmediately heard any difference
for the best or worse...
If you are sometimes uncertain as what to put first and where try only the
0.01 Wima polypropylene bypassing the mains capacitors (electrolytics)
Regards,
Dimitrios

GGreat story - thank you. Makes me think of my dog too - they
pack so much into such a short life and always leave us wanting

------=_NextPart_000_001C_01C5E3B6.8015C2F0--I just read the doc, thanks for posting the link. Much of it is quite
interesting and just as much is confusing.
I didn't know tdm systems sounded gnarly, never having worked with one.
At what track count would they sonically crap out?

If I can't get some of my tedious little troubles with paris resolved
I'm considering switching to protools.

I'm still having trouble with my adat card. The manual wasn't much help
(or maybe I read it badly).

When it's installed, set to 48khz, I'm still getting no audio. The mec
is getting signal but not the mixer.

Could you please give me a hand at what settings I might be overlooking?

jefI responded to an article on a conservative website. The article was
about how "amusing" it is that the French are "getting theirs" now
with all these horrible riots. I thought the article was silly and the
sentiment behind it probably evil and I said so in the "comments"
section.

Guess what?

I got called a "typical liberal" and a "knee-jerk liberal" and a bunch
of other stuff...

I thought y'all would enjoy that... I sure did.

I suppose it is comforting to acknowledge that the right can be
just a retarded as the left...

I had a good laugh...

DCYukkk,
Don't do it..PT I mean.
I've just been playing with PT M-Powered 6.8, using my Delta 1010, and I
have to say...I don't like it.
The interface is (IMNSHO), horrible, confusing, and convoluted.
Moves that come easily in Paris, and more easily in Nuendo, are tiresome in
PT, apart from the reagon tool...taht has always been good, right from the
Session 8 days, but not much else.
And..it only plays .MOV video files, which in my case is a no-no, (the full
TDM version may play the others but I don't think so).
To top it off, playing one of my projects from Nuendo, (reassembled), it
didn't have the "life" that the original had, by a long shot.
I repeat...don't go there, Jeff......

I guess I'm just a tad frustrated with my system. Did a nice overhaul
recently so now I have to learn too much too fast and some of it is like
crawling over broken glass to get happening.
The guys I deal with down at Saved By Technology are constantly
genuflecting droolingly over PT which has kind of hyp-mo-tized me....

Dimitrios,
You also know that this works between projects right?!!!

You can copy a whole mixer and paste it into a new one
in a different project with plugins as long as you save the plugs
independently.

Big time saver.

track you want, then export a mix. In the output dialog you can specify if
it is a mono or stereo WAV file. The main thing is that all the tracks need
to begin at the same point. And of course, if he's combining MIDI tracks
and audio tracks on the same project, the MIDI tracks will need to be
recorded back into the project as audio first.

A coupla quick questions:
What operating system?
What kind of video card?
Have you checked on your video drivers/IRQ sharing?
Done any recent system changes/updates?

The proteusX piano is fantastic, I can't believe it's that good for the =
