st when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor.. A three second burst would be considered conservative?
IT HURT LIKE HELL!!!
A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I had no control over the drooling.
Apparently, I pooped on myself, but was too numb to know for sure and my sense of smell was gone. I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head, which I believe, came from my hair. I'm still looking for my nuts and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!
P.s.... My wife, can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift, and now regularly threatens me with it! If you think, education is difficult, try being stupid !!! That is too funny. Thanks for the morning laugh. Laughing Laughing email me at dnafe at rogers dot com

thanks

ps. if anyone has Rod's email addy could they shoot it to meI sent your adventure to my wife to brighten her day. She wants to know if it's really true! I figure you couldn't made that one up!Where do the UAD cards show up in Paris

I'm about to install my UAD cards into my new rig and I thought I better find out

heheheSomeone more knowledgeable than I will chime in soon with which wrapper you have to use, but I believe they'll show up in your native inserts as VST plugs.

Well, actually, I see that there is a "General Forum" on the home page, but I don't know if said mirroring will be happening there. I don't know what I would do without the political and religious fights . . . er, debates. Very Happy

>Hi all

Well it appears out little experiment of building one computer to house two
EDS cards and two UAD-1e cards has worked (I think)

Never having used UAD cards before here's what happens when I click on a
plug in the native drop down menu....

What I get is a big brown horizontal window with the plug-in GUI (is that
the right word) imbedded in theft side of that brown window. And on the
right side of the window are two places to load/save/delete etc. user
presets.

I can load up factory presets but none of the knobs change their position
but the sound does change.

So here are my questions

1) is this GUI I'm getting normal

2) Is there a better was to integrate the cards? i.e. Using an Expansion
wrapper / FFX4 / Chainer / faderworks / sampleslide etc (things I've heard
about but didn't really take notice of)....and if so will that allow me to
see the changes made to the controls when loading the factory presets.

3) What about Compensating for delay ? What's the basic delay compensation
I should use...right now I'm ballparking at roughly at somewhere around
375ms (if I remember correctly) using paris nudges...definitely less than
400 ms.

4) what about configuring the cards themselves...any tricks?

I guess that's it for now but I'm sure I'll have more questions as things
progress

Thanks for reading.

DonYou gotta use a wrapper bro - I used the FXpansion one. And, get used to
mind numbing latency manuallly compensated math. You'll love what it does to
the sounds though it's a PITA.

Regarding Paris config files, the things I'm most interested in are PreQFactor and EDSTransfer....what do these actually do?

Cheers

KrisI just added a section on EDSTransfer culled from forum info (chiefly from Dimitrios); have a look at the foot of the Wiki config page. Still looking for PreQFactor info.

OK, collected up some sketchy info on PreQFactor there as well. Pretty meagre so far though, anyone got more?Hi all. Don't know if this is relevant to PARIS, but since I didn't see this come up, Xlutop (the same folks who make the Xlutop Chainer) apparently also released a VST to DX wrapper as freeware a couple of years back that I didn't see mentioned here. Here's what they say about it:

Quote:
There are basically three vst plugins, dxshell.dll, dxishell.dll and mfxshell.dll, these vsts are non-standard vsts, they are so-called shell vsts like the vsts known from Waves. Unfortunately this means that only a few hosts are able to use these wrappers directly. Some hosts that are supporting shell vsts directly:

Cubase SX,
Tracktion,
Reaper,
Temper,
Renoise,
Buzz,
Aodix,
Vsthost

If you want to use them in other hosts you firstly have to convert them to "standard" vsts with a tool called shell2vst which is also bundled with this zipfile.

Some infos about these wrappers:

- vst 2.4 compatibility
- therefore support for 32bit and 64bit processing
- able to run dx plugins in 64bit processing mode if the plugin supports it
- fully automatable parameters
- multi-in/out plugins supported
- the mfx wrapper is quite experimental right now, some mfx plugins will work but others not

I'll be giving them a try in PARIS myself ASAP and posting results. If anyone else does (or has) feel free to use this thread to compare notes on how it stacks up for use in PARIS.Hi all.
Probably a stupid question.
I'm still running a four EDS PARIS system on a Gigabyte K8NS Ultra 939, with a single core Athlon 64 3800+ processor.
It works well, albeit with a few hiccups occasionally, depending on native plugin configurations.
Given that, with my understanding, PARIS will only ever be a single core application, is there any benefit in building a quad core machine to run Paris exclusively?
Would the upside be that I could use more native plugin instances, or are they tied to the one core nabbed by PARIS?
Just curious, as I would love to have a reason to purchase Mike's new drivers, and build a new machine. (I'll probably purchase anyway, just for the fact that he has put in so much effort.., and I LOVE his Class A amp, and Drum Plate!!) Embarassed
Cheers,
Kim.
Hi all - anyone have any experience setting up so they can multitrack to PARIS and simultaneously flow those inputs through into another DAW via the outputs of the ADAT cards? If so, any suggestions on patchbay setups/routing? I'd like to avoid the necessity for an external ADAT patchbay if at all possible.

Thanks!

- KOK, got SIR to show up and routed to it - it works! Pretty darned cool!

I'm experiencing some issues right now that might be related to my struggles with figu

ring out wrappers et al. I'm experiencing apparently fluctuating latency with this chain - audio routed through it seems to have audibly fluctuating latency. It almost seems like the clock that steadies the stream (is there one?) is "wobbling" - the audio received itself is almost "inconsistently vari-speeded". I've experimented with EDSTransfer=8,16, couldn't really hear a big change - I might need to clean out the plugin folder and simplify.

If you're getting a steady latency (or no latency) on your system then it's likely to be a configuration issue on this end since I'm delving into all this stuff for the first time.Kerry, have you tried bypassing SIR? Is the problem with Senderella (and the wrapper function), or SIR?

Interestingly enough, I think the problems that I was having with SoundToys plugins may have been related to variable buffer sizes or odd length buffer sizes. What I ended up getting on those plugins was audio that clicked whenever sound was present. Apparently, in FL studio in order to get these plugins to work you need to set "Fixed buffer sizes", and in Ableton Live you need to set it to an even buffer length:

http://www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instruments- electronic-music-production/455889-issues-soundtoys-live-8-a .html

In Paris, I don't think we have any chance of changing the buffer length. Unless there's a hidden setting in the .cfg file that can affect this. Perhaps I'll learn more as I dig deeper into VST programming.

Cheers

KrisI hope Mike will correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I understand it, since the drivers - Scherzo and the PSCL - he's now threadsafed are where the actual audio "heavy lifting" goes on in your PARIS system, it's not as critical a matter if the app itself (which has relatively light duties) were to lock itself to one core. Many of the larger tasks that go into PARIS' audio processing can be distributed off that core and on to others anyway.

The PARIS app gets disproportionate attention since it's the part of the PARIS system we interact with, but it's only one part of an entire ecosystem. Under Mike's drivers the PARIS system in aggregate (including the places where the audio work really goes on) is effectively now multicore. Not fully, there are still things being worked on, but effectively.Gotcha. I'll check a broader range of plugs. Don't know about "fixed buffer sizes" being something we can get at, Mike would know more about that. I dug up some more stuff about EDSTransfer from Steve's site including some interesting input from Edmund (it seems the first number, the one before the comma, is suggested to be 1/4 your chosen disk I/O), check the Wiki page.I sent off an email to intdevices support....we'll see if there's any response. I was looking for clarification on the un-documented config file settings.

I think Paris' VST behaviour is handled in a separate dll. I asked for the source for it, figuring it wouldn't be valuable IP considering the age of the product and the fact that the VST standard has evolved a bit in 10 years. Again, we'll see...

I'm not holding my breath.

Cheers

I disabled SIR and the "skiddy buffer" effect persists, even with a new song and new tracks. It's either Senderella or what I wrapped it in, or it's something in my system. Can't shake it with settings either. But that's actually pretty good news though - the audio routing itself is working perfectly well, so since we *have* the source code for Senderella it might just be a matter of tweaking it for use in PARIS and may

ht be interested in small, focused projects with potentially cool advances waiting at the end.I don't recall getting any kind of vari-speed effect. I used FXPansion's wrapper on my system.

Have you tried senderella as a regular VST installed into Paris' vst directory? This would rule out the wrapper. Also, which senderella are you using? I'll need to check the version # that I installed, but I think it's 1.06 and I opted to use the original interface version instead of the simpler one.

KrisHi Guys, I am having a hell of a time trying to get Paris 3.0 and my UAD-1 pci to play nice together. I have a 3 card mix of about 24 tracks total. The sys is my new i7 box, 4 gig ram, xp pro.

All tracks have been rendered, no cross-fades anywhere, I have 55% usage in UAD meter.
After powering up the box, I can usually play the song start to end without problem, but on second playback, I get about halfway and the cursor start to jump around a little then playback stops and I get the paris streaming error followed by a UAD (err=21) error. (see screen grab)

index.php?t=getfile&id=708&private=0

I am suspecting and IRQ issue as my 3rd EDS is sharing IRQ 19 with the UAD but I have tried everything I can think of to change the IRQ allocation but the darn box is still greyed out in the device manager.
Could it be a Paris config issue (paris.cfg), here is my current config.

Rob_AIRQ wouldn't surprise me: off the top of my head, your rig looks like a good candidate for an external expansion chassis, although I'm sure Mike will have some ideas for workarounds.I bet a PCI-e to PCI adapter would do the trick.

Or perhaps there are some BIOS settings to assign the slots to particular IRQs.

Cheers

KrisPCI-e to PCI, I never thought of that one, I just may try this if the price is rite. As for bios settings, I don't see anyplace in the bios to assign IRQs to PCI slots as well as any place to set for a Plug and Play OS. That's probably why, even after reinstalling XP using the "standard PC" HAL, that I still cant change resources in device manager, greyed out.

Thanks for the help guys.
Rob_AFound this one on ebay

Its a hell of a lot cheaper than the virtuavia, you guys think I should take a chance?Or, maybe you have a good excuse to look at UAD-2's.

I think the PCI-e adapter is a good try at $10.

I also am running PARIS 3 on XP (not pro) with an i7.

I'm running UAD2 Duo together with a UAD1e (both PCIe of course) and have _no_ problems...

Ted
Maybe your 4 in/out are set to +4db and your 8 out are set to -10db ?

No, it's all at +4.
I did find one thing. My 16 channel Mogami 16 channel snake is wired out of phase. Very strange. Could be why it was such a good deal on ebay. So now I have to rewire the TRS ends right.
I got a cable tester and that's how I found out. I found some poor connections on the TRS ends too.

I was wiring up my tri-amp 3000 watt pa system and needed a patch from my BBE Speaker MGMT system to the amps. So I noticed
the speakers sounded strange also and one tweeter had poor sound also. So I switched to a different cable it fixed it. So my Mogani has to be repaired before I can go anywhere now with Paris. I will update after I take care of the cable and recheck the system.

I know my wife (the singer) was telling my it's a very bad sounding recording sy
