Its possible, but not likely, especially if its not a new unit, which =
would be more likely to have a defective component. Something caused a =
current overload through it to burn it up. But apparently not a direct =
short which would have blown the fuse as well. I've seen many leaky =
filter caps do this - these are the large caps that filter the ripple =
voltage or small ac component off the DC. A blown voltage regulator is =
another likely suspect, as far as the PS itself. Can the PS run by =
itself w/o being connected to the M80? =20

Neil, Edna, couldn't the rectifier just have gone Kablooey? As you say =
it could be symptomatic of another problem but if you read my last post, =
I may have been overloading the thing. Looking at the circuit board =
carefully, I see no other browned or burned resistors, etc. Maybe I'll =
send it in, but I might try to fix it myself as it will be only a couple =

------=_NextPart_000_0065_01C77939.21C14700--Ok,
I know you like power amp distortion, but try this:
Take a good OD pedal
I like this one:
http://www.barberelectronics.com/directdrive.htm
and run it into this
http://www.foxroxelectronics.com/
(click on Paradox TZF)
then run that into both of your amps.
Now set the TZF up for a fixed filter (no modulation)
and adjust the depth and manual controls...
You will find a setting that beats the best you got before
by 100%
!
It's just like playing with two mics on one amp and getting
the distances *perfect* and all of a sudden the tone just grabs
you by short hairs...
Only you can do it live.
Un-freaking-believable tone doth result...
Yeah yeah the TZF does all the Hendrix flange-O-rama stuff
well, and that's a cool sound too, but it does this adjustable
stereo comb filter thing like nothing else, and the tone simply
has to be heard to be believed...
DC
withThanks for all the well wishes! I'll keep you all posted.
You people are like a second family to me,thanks for the support.

Edna, yes the power supply can run on its own, doesn't need to be =
plugged in for it to function. I have it disconnected at the moment. Why =
do you ask?

As you =
say it could be symptomatic of another problem but if you read my last =
post, I may have been overloading the thing. Looking at the circuit =
board carefully, I see no other browned or burned resistors, etc. Maybe =
I'll send it in, but I might try to fix it myself as it will be only a =
couple of bucks if it doesn't work. The unit was bought used from =
another owner a few years ago, on ebay, and I'm not sure if it is still =
under warrantee. I'll have to look into this. I probably know just =
enough to get this wrong, but wish me luck. I know........ I'll soon be =
hearing, "I told you so"! :-)
Thanks,

Hello, Easter greetings by the way. Hey the other day I smelled =
smoke and heard a crinkling sound in the back of my preamp rack and =
later discovered the cause was my Presonus M80's power supply which is =
now deep fried. Well I took the supply apart and found that this dark =
grey thing on the cuircut board, I think it's a diode ->l, melted right =
off of the board. Any one know what this is? I can't get a picture just =
yet up on the net but I'll try and describe it.
It's appx. 3/4" by 1/2" by 1/4" thick, has 4 pins on the bottom =
which solder to the cuicut board, dark grey colored and is coded:
